Academic degree: Master in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or other related disciplines.
Other specific requisites:
- Experience in analytical methods (e. g. , HPLC, FTIR, GC-MS, LC-MS) documented in
- author peer‑reviewed publications (if applicable). - Autonomy in executing diverse analytical methods (e. g. , HPLC, GC‑MS).
- Experience in Flash‑Chromatography methods is valued.
- Basic knowledge in microbiology.
- Technical experience in handling macroalgae and/or filamentous fungi is a plus.
- Scientific publications in biological sciences in peer‑reviewed journals will be valuable.
- Participation in activities related to science and knowledge dissemination, including oral presentations at scientific meetings, organisation of conferences and scientific cooperation activities.
- Being enrolled in a Ph
D, or in a non‑academic degree course, until the signature of the contract, in accordance with Article 6th of the “Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I. P. ”, law in force.
Other valuable competences:
- Good communication skills in technical writing, documentation, and oral presentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to carefully follow complex protocols.
- Highly motivated to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Working Plan: The work plan is part of a project that aims at developing new antimicrobial therapies focused on bioactive compounds extracted from macroalgae. Fellows will receive training in extraction methodologies. The fellow will provide technical support to the team, namely in the characterization and purification of final products resulting from the extraction of natural compounds using chromatographic techniques (e. g. , HPLC, Flash‑Chromatography), gaseous and/or liquid (GC/LC) coupled or not to spectroscopy.

Working Place: The work will be carried out in the Applied and Environmental Mycology Laboratory at ITQB NOVA, under supervision of Professor Cristina Silva Pereira.
Duration of the fellowship: 6 months, non‑renewable, expected to start in January 2026, on a full‑time basis, according to Fellowship Regulations of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I. P.
Selection Procedure: The evaluation procedures will be based on the analysis of the candidates (1) Motivation Letter that should include a short statement describing your research experiences to date and your particular interests, and your qualifications related to this position (no more than 1 page in length), (2) Curriculum vitae, and (3) feedback provided by the two references indicated (it is mandatory to provide the references’ email contacts). Short‑listed candidates (top ranked) will be interviewed (in English). The curriculum evaluation (points 1‑3) and the interview will weigh 50% each.
