Offer Description
Work Plan: The selected fellow will be involved in various stages of the research associated with the project “Dissecting the molecular mechanisms of X-chromosome inactivation using human embryonic stem cells”. This project employs
- edge molecular biology techniques (CRISPR/Cas9, CRISPRi, RNA FISH) and
- generation sequencing approaches (e. g. , RNA-seq and Ch
IP-seq), as well as bioinformatics analyses, with the ultimate goal of better understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying X-chromosome inactivation (XCI) in human cells.
The candidate will be actively involved in both the laboratory and computational aspects of the project. In addition, the fellow is expected to supervise students associated with the project over the course of the fellowship.
Fellowship duration: The fellowship is for 11 months, starting on September of 2025. The scholarship contract may eventually be renewable, within the term of the project.
Application deadline and form of application submission: The call for applications is open between August 4th and August 18th, 2025.
Documentation to be provided in the application: Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents: Motivation letter, Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications and other supporting documents considered relevant for the evaluation of the experience.
Note: For academic degrees conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it is mandatory to present the record of recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12 October), or alternatively, to obtain equivalence/recognition of academic degrees (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 283/83). of June 21).
Form of submission of applications: Applications must be sent by mail to Ana Rita Grosso (argrosso@fct. unl. pt ), indicating "X_Human - Fellowship" in the subject and including: Motivation letter, Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications and other supporting documents considered relevant for the evaluation of the experience.
Documentation to be provided in contracting: Proof of academic degrees or their equivalence when awarded by foreign higher education institutions.

Skills/Qualifications
Recipients profile/category: Mandatory requirements: Applicants to this call may be national, foreign or stateless candidates holding a Ph
D degree in the field of Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or similar and complying with the following specific requirements:
a. Demonstrated expertise in Molecular, Cellular, and Computational Biology, with relevant publications.
b. Proficiency in Epigenetics (with particular value given to experience in parental imprinting and X-chromosome inactivation), Stem Cell Biology, and Omics approaches.
c. Relevant experience in human stem cell culture, molecular techniques for epigenetic analysis (such as bisulfite sequencing and its variants), RNA FISH, immunofluorescence, and bioinformatic analysis of allelic expression.
d. Experience working in research teams and projects, with a strong focus on those related to epigenetics and/or human stem cells.
In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to ensure the application of the principle of equal treatment to candidates who hold foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognize these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale.

Selection process
Selection criteria: The selection of the successful candidate will be carried out through the evaluation of the scientific and curricular achievements:
b) Proficiency in Epigenetics (with emphasis on experience in parental imprinting and X-chromosome inactivation), Stem Cell Biology, and Omics approaches – weighting: 30%
c) Relevant experience in human stem cell culture, molecular techniques for epigenetic analysis (e. g. , bisulfite sequencing and related methods), RNA FISH, immunofluorescence, and bioinformatic analysis of allelic expression – weighting: 30%
d) Experience working in research teams and projects, especially those focused on epigenetics and/or human stem cells – weighting: 10%
The top three candidates with a score equal to or greater than 17 will be invited for an interview.
The final ranking of these candidates will be determined based on a composite score: 50% from the evaluation according to the predefined criteria (items a) to d)) and 50% from the interview score.
