2 fully funded Ph.D. positions in MSCA doctoral network MATCH
Overview
MATCH Doctoral Network (MSCA) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions project funded by the European Union. It is recruiting highly motivated candidates for fully funded Ph
D positions across top European institutions in the field of Multicore Fiber Applications and Technologies.
Thesis projects
DC 4 – Thesis title: Innovative MCF amplifier approaches for telecommunications
Ultra-high-speed fiber optic telecommunications are entering the era of
- core fibers to meet increasing data transfer demand. Signal regeneration is a key function of future networks. Each core, and eventually each mode, must benefit from controlled gain to balance the system as a whole. We propose a dual approach: (1) gain equalization between cores by homogenizing the pumping power distribution in the cladding while maintaining an
- doped active fiber geometry identical to the line fiber; (2) evaluate a
- pumped Raman amplifier to optimize efficiency and gain equalization by designing special optical fibers.
Planned secondments:
- HCT: Dr. K. Schuster M21-26 (6 months) “Cylinder drilling, geometrical adaptation towards smaller preforms”
- ISCTE: Prof. T. Alves M41-M42 (2 months) “Experimental demonstration of
- reach amplified MCF systems”
DC 12 – Thesis title: Design of
- aware
- capacity optical networks
Infinera is a global supplier of innovative optical networking solutions and advanced optical semiconductors. The Optical Architecture Group (OAG) of Infinera will host doctoral candidate (DC) 12 of MATCH. The DC will gain extensive training on
- and
- level design and operation of
- generation
- capacity optical networks, embedded in an industrial environment. Research will consider
- and
- band (MB) MCF systems supporting telecom and
- telecom services such as sensing. Node architectures and optical performance models will be investigated to address future capacity requirements and assess the feasibility of leveraging the same fiber infrastructure for advanced services. The DC will benefit from secondments at key research institutes/universities.
Candidates must have obtained an MSc Degree in a relevant field (e. g. , electrical engineering, physics, computer science). The selected candidate will be enrolled in a Ph
D program at ISCTE.
Planned secondments:
- ISCTE: Prof. L. Cancela M13-15 (3 months) “Development of models for evaluating MCF-specific transmission effects”
- IT: Dr. R. Nogueira M20-21 (2 months) “Training on modelling
- telecom applications in
- capacity systems” - UNILIM: Prof. P. Roy M29-32 (1 month) “Training on setting up an MCF transmission system”
