The Role
The accountant role is responsible for the financial and administrative support of a company. Oversees the timely completion of payments, the application of payments and processing, verifying, and reconciling of invoices. This role ensures the accuracy of the company financial documents for payment, auditing, and tax purposes.
This role reports into the Accounting and Tax Manager.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Keeping track of all payments and expenditures, purchase orders, invoices, statements, etc. in cooperation with the rest of the team;
- Reconciling processed work by verifying entries in order to execute checks of Balance Sheet accounts and P&L in preparation of monthly reports to the needs of the team;
- Maintaining historical records up to date and according with legal requirements (both paper and digital);
- Respond to all stakeholders' inquiries regarding finance;
- Cash-flow reports and forecasts;
- Cash management;
- Paying suppliers/employees by scheduling pay checks and ensuring payment is received for outstanding credit;
- Reports for Bank of Portugal and credit card treatments;
- Work with the team to improve the payment process and implement new solutions, as well as to improve accounting processes under supervision of the manager;
- Revenue treatment and invoicing;
- Verification of new suppliers against tax office;
- Asset management;
- Produce ad hoc tasks and analysis as required;
- Assist with internal and external audit processes;
- Prepare tax returns, such as VAT return, Corporate Tax return (Model 22), and IES.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in tax, accounting, economics, or finance;
- Understanding of Portuguese Accounting Principles, basic bookkeeping, and Tax is required;
- Knowledge of IFRS and GAAP principles is valued;
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills;
- Good communication skills; fluency in English is mandatory;
- Critical thinking and teamwork capabilities;
- MS Excel skills are required.
