Map project aims to research and develop cosmetics incorporating two bee products, propolis and honey. The formulations to be developed will be based on natural and local raw materials from the Montesinho Natural Park region, allowing products to be differentiated by using national ingredients and increasing the portfolio of national cosmetic and bee products. The activities to be developed are part of broader objectives to help solve the challenges associated with the cosmetics sector and to boost the local economy, increasing its competitiveness and visibility.
During the contract period, candidates will participate in laboratory work, data analysis and dissemination activities. The specific tasks to be carried out include:
Task 1: To study the potential of bee products from the Montesinho Natural Park as cosmetic ingredients. This task will involve analysing local bee products, propolis and honey, for application in cosmetic formulations. Extraction approaches will be carried out to optimise the yield and quality of the extracts. Subsequently, the physicochemical characterisation and determination of the bioactive properties of the extracts will be carried out, namely antioxidant,
- inflammatory, antimicrobial, healing and
- ageing activity.
Task 2: Study of new cosmetic products on a laboratory scale. Different cosmetic formulations will be developed based on mixtures of natural ingredients, including the bee extracts studied. Evaluations of the properties of the cosmetics developed, physicochemical characterisation, stability studies and microbiological safety will also be carried out. The aim will be to obtain formulations with different biological and functional properties, adapted to specific cosmetic applications.
In addition to these technical tasks, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Participate in regular project monitoring meetings;
- Contribute to scientific publications and dissemination activities;
- Collaborate with team members and project partners.
The work programme is designed to provide advanced scientific training in the areas of biochemistry, biotechnology and microbiology, targeting propolis and honey extracts and cosmetic formulations. This
plan also aims to promote the development of transversal skills relevant to academic and professional careers.
