Assistant Lead Engineer - Controls – Porto
The Vestas Technology & Operations> Frontend Engineering & Technology> TOE - Loads & Controls department (Service La
C) plays a key role within Vestas Service.
Our mission is to design new products and optimise the existing fleet, ensuring its performance is aligned with that of new turbines.
Describe the Department
- Rotor upgrades (including for multiple brands)
- Software products such as Power
Plus - Site‑specific controller tuning
- Field issue management (alarms and optimisation)
- Service cost‑reduction initiatives
- Predictive maintenance strategies
Your role as Assistant Lead Engineer - Controls
You will be responsible for developing control solutions that unlock new business opportunities within Service, always ensuring compliance with design standards. The team for this position is based in India, Denmark, Spain and Portugal.
Responsibilities
- Develop and tune control algorithms
- Implement algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink
- Analyse turbine and fleet performance data for optimisation
- Conduct feasibility studies for new turbine products (power, loads, noise optimisation)
- Verify developments through software testing and field trials
- Support risk management activities (evaluations, failure modes, and effects analysis)
- Contribute to innovation and conceptual projects
- Maintain a holistic view of turbine components and control strategy
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph
D / Master’s / Bachelor’s in Electrical, Electromechanical, Instrumentation & Control, Automation, or similar - 1‑3 years of experience in simulation/modeling (MATLAB/Simulink)
- Extensive background in mathematical modelling of electromechanical and hydraulic systems
- Solid knowledge in model‑based control design and tuning
- Robust understanding of control theory principles
- Programming in C++ and SQL
- Knowledge of power generation concepts and aerodynamics
- Wind turbine control experience
