- CD-CTTI-209-SGRH/2025- Doctor Paulo Jorge dos Santos Gonçalves Ferreira, Full Professor and Rector at the University of Aveiro, hereby announces that for a period of thirty business days starting on the first business day following after which this notice is published, by extractive notice, in the Diário da República, an international public competition is opened, for the recruitment of 1 (one) position as Assistant Professor in the subject area of Physical Engineering under an employment contract for an indefinite period under the Portuguese Labour Code.
- The present Competition was opened on 30th of June, 2025 by order of the Rector of the University of Aveiro, and is governed by the provisions of regulation on the careers of teaching staff in private law at the University of Aveiro and related hiring (regulation 384/2014, of 26 August), Statute of the University Teaching Career, hereinafter SUTC, approved by Decree-Law No. 448/79 of 13 November, with the wording introduced by Decree-Law No. 205/2009 of 31 August, amended by Law No. 8/2010 of 13 May and by applicable legislation and norms.
- 1 – Admission requirements:
1. 1 — Applicants to the Competition must be holders of a Ph
D degree in the area of Physical Engineering.1. 2 — Applicants with qualifications obtained abroad must provide proof of recognition, equivalence or registration of a Ph
D degree by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the applicable legislation. This formality must be fulfilled by the date of expiry of the application deadline. - 2 — Application requirements:
2. 1 — The Applications must be accompanied by the following documents: a) Application minute for the competition addressed to the Rector of the University of Aveiro; b) Detailed curriculum vitae containing all pertinent information for the assessment of the applicant considering the items of evaluation in point 4; c) Copies of papers selected by the applicant as being most representative of their curriculum vitae, no more than five; d) Presentation of a single document containing the justification of the papers selected in the previous paragraph; e) Report on performance in scientific, educational and other activities considered relevant to the mission of the higher education institutions, focusing on the papers selected as most representative; f) Scientific-pedagogical project: document outlining a mission charter and activities the candidate intends to develop during the first five years as an Assistant Professor, explaining contributions to Sensors and Biomedical Devices; g) Document that highlights the number of citations (if applicable) of publications listed in the curriculum and explains the method used to count citations to allow reproducibility; h) Any other elements deemed relevant by the applicant.

- 6 — Assessment and selection
6. 1 — After admission, applications are analyzed against the items and criteria of this notice.
6. 2 — In the first meeting, the jury decides which applicants pass to the next phase on absolute merit; proposals to exclude are voted by the jury with no abstentions; final decisions are recorded in the minutes.
6. 3 — If an application does not receive absolute merit approval, the jury holds hearings with excluded applicants who may contest within 10 days.
6. 4 — The jury then assesses those approved according to absolute merit, considering the ranking factors; 6. 4. 1 each member evaluates each criterion on a 0–100 scale; 6. 4. 2 the final score FS is calculated by weighting the strands, as shown: FS=P1*(C11*P11+C12*P12+C13*P13+C14*P14)+P2*(C21*P21+C22*P22+C23*P23)+P3*(C31*P31+C32*P32)+P4*(C41*P41)
- 7 — Voting methodology and ordering
7. 1 — Ordering of candidates is based on strands and criteria with the indicated weights; 7. 2 — Each member presents a written order of applicants; 7. 3 — No abstentions; 7. 4 — The jury uses the described voting method to determine the final ranking until a clear first place is obtained for each position.
- 8 — Participation of interested parties and the decision
8. 1 — Applicants are notified of the final ranking to start hearings of interested parties under the Administrative Procedure Code; 8. 2 — After hearings, the jury approves the final ranking.
- 9 — Timeframe
9. 1 — Notwithstanding, the final decision cannot exceed ninety consecutive days from the deadline for submission of applications; 9. 2 — The deadline may be extended in case of high number of applicants or complexity.
- 10 — Hiring terms
The teacher will be hired for an indefinite period with an experimental period of five years to carry out the functions described in the mission letter and inherent to the category of Assistant Professor.
- 11 — Scope
The present competition is exclusively destined to fill the indicated position and can be closed upon homologation of the final ranking and occupation of the job offer.
- 12 — Publication of Competition notice
In addition to publication in a national newspaper, notice is also published in: the public employment pool; the Foundation for Science and Technology website (Portuguese and English); the University of Aveiro website (Portuguese and English); and a national newspaper.
