Doctor Paulo Jorge dos Santos Gonçalves Ferreira, Full Professor and Rector of Universidade de Aveiro, hereby announces that for a period of thirty working days following the publication of this notice in the Diário da República an international open call is held for the recruitment of one (1) position of Assistant Researcher in the scientific field of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, under an indefinite employment contract, under the Labor Code, with a monthly salary of €3501. 28, to be carried out at University of Aveiro on an exclusive dedication basis.
Opening authorized by order 43‑REIT/2025 of August 1st, 2025 and by order of 09 of October 2025, issued by the Rector of University of Aveiro, per the proposal of the Scientific Council, governed by Law no. 55/2025, the Statute of the Scientific Research Career and the Regulation on the System of the Proper Career of the Research Staff under Private Law of University of Aveiro.
Scientific field
1. 1 – The scientific field of this call is Environmental Sciences and Engineering.
Admission requirements
2. 1 – Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in the scientific field of the call, or a doctorate in a different area with a relevant scientific curriculum in that area.
2. 2 – Candidates with degrees awarded abroad must provide proof of recognition, equivalence or registration of the doctoral degree in a Portuguese higher education institution before the contract is concluded.
Formalization of applications
3. 1 – Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Application form addressed to the Rector of University of Aveiro.
- Detailed curriculum vitae containing all relevant information for evaluation.
- Copies of up to five selected works representing the candidate’s curriculum vitae.
- Document justifying the selected works.
- Report on scientific performance and other relevant activities.
- Scientific project document (max 10 pages) outlining proposed activities for the first five years of the Assistant Researcher position, detailing contribution to the field and cooperation with society.
- Document showing the number of citations of the publications indicated in the curriculum and method used for counting.
- Any other relevant documents for merit assessment.
3. 3 – Curriculum vitae must include the candidate’s full name, specialty, and a copy of the qualifications certificate with appropriate classification.

3. 6 – Failure to submit required documents before the deadline results in rejection of the application.

4. 1 – Jury composed of appointed members. Decisions taken by absolute majority with no abstentions.
Admission and exclusion of applications
5. 1 – Approval on absolute merit based on overall curriculum, requiring fulfilment of at least one of the following:
- Author or co‑author of at least ten indexed scientific articles.
- Total of at least 150 indexed scientific works in the field.
- H‑index of at least 5 on SCOPUS or Web of Science.
5. 2 – Candidates must provide evidence for requirement(s) met, e. g. , key for database search or list of publications.

7. 1 – Jury assesses applications using weighted criteria. Final score calculated via R‑AC formula.

Responsibilities and duties of the Assistant Researcher
13 – Researchers will be hired for an indefinite period with a trial period of five years to carry out the duties described in the mission letter and inherent to the category of Assistant Researcher.
12 – Researchers shall carry out teaching duties at the University with a maximum limit of four hours per week, averaged over the year.
