The Role

We are seeking a Patent Attorney to join our team and play a central role in handling patent drafting and prosecution work in Portugal and Europe. The successful candidate will manage patent applications from inception through grant, support clients across diverse industries, and contribute to the growth of our patent practice.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated attorney who wants to work in an international environment with exposure to European patent practice and the chance to take on increasing responsibility, including a leadership path within the firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the Portuguese PTO (INPI), European Patent Office (in collaboration with European Patent Attorneys), and WIPO.
• Advising clients on patentability,
  -
  - operate, and portfolio management.
• Preparing responses to office actions and oppositions.
• Supporting litigation teams with technical expertise when needed.
• Building strong relationships with domestic and international clients.
• Contributing to business development initiatives and thought leadership activities.

Requirements

• Degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, life sciences, or a related technical field.
• Portuguese IP Attorney qualification.
• 5–8 years of professional experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
• Proven ability to draft patent applications at European standards.
• Fluency in English (essential). Additional European language (Spanish, French, or German) is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication, and client management skills.
• Self-motivated,
  - oriented, and able to work both independently and in a team.
