A position is now open for the attribution of 1 Research Grant (BI) under the funding of i
CAMBreeder (projet no. 21738) , financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the COMPETE2030 Programme, under the following conditions:
Work Plan and Objectives to Reach:The work to be carried out will consist of research and development of a prototype intelligent system for monitoring fish breeders, namely turbot in captivity, using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Vision (CV) technologies. This system aims to automate and optimise critical processes that influence the success of reproduction in a controlled environment. In particular, the aim is to develop a set of specialised algorithms for:
- Individual detection of fish present in farming tanks;
- Monitoring of feeding behaviour;
- Analysis of trajectories and tracking of individuals over time;
- Automatic classification of the maturity status of females present in the tanks.
Scholarship Duration:The scholarship will last for 12 months, starting in September 2025. The scholarship contract may be renewed until the end of the assigned project.

Admittance requirements:Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics or a related area. On the date of recruitment, candidates must provide proof of enrolment (issued by the Academic Services of the Higher Education Institution) in a Master's degree in the Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related area.
Additional Information

Amount of the Monthly maintenance subvention:The amount of the scholarship will be 1 040, 98€, according to the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by the Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, research and technology (FCT) – online available at ( Tabela_valores_SMM_2025. pdf ).

Applicable Legislation:The grant award is based on the Scientific Research Scholarship Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of 18th August and the Research Grant Regulation in force of the Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, which is the one adopted by the Centre of Computer and Graphics.

Selection process
Application Formalization:Candidates must submit their applications through a cover letter stating their reasons to apply, accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae, a copy of the qualifications certificate, tabling curricular units (subjects) and respective grades, proof of course attendance and a copy of the identification document. Selection methods:The evaluation will take into account the candidate's merit, considering academic course, curricular profile and experience in scientific research, mainly in the scientific fields of specialization related with the requirements defined in this fellowship's position offer.
Candidate selection will be divided into two stages. While a former stage involving curricular evaluation (60% of the total value) will aim a preliminary screening, a latter one will consist of an interview (40% of the total value), with the goal of producing an ordered list of candidates, in which the selected person occupies the first position, according to the selection criteria previously specified. The jury reserves the right to cancel the call if none of the candidates meets the required qualifications.
Publication/Notification of Results: The final results of the evaluation will be available through a sorted list posted in the front desk of the Centre of Computer Graphics, and the selected candidate will be notified by email.
Deadline and Complaint Procedure: In case of an unfavourable result, candidates have a period of 10 working days to complain, in accordance with article 12 of the FCT Research Grants Regulation, I. P. , no. 950/2019, of December 16, 2019.
