Free” Project, funded by “La Caixa and FCT. ”

Admission Requirements

• The candidate must be enrolled in a master’s degree program in computer engineering or related scientific fields, or in a non‑degree program part of a higher education institution.
• The candidate must have appropriate training and, ideally, some experience in the development and implementation of statistical, epidemiological, or data science models, using an appropriate programming language.
• The candidate must be fluent in English (written and spoken).

Work Plan

The main tasks are divided into two phases:

• Development of epidemiological models using time‑series data from olive tree observations and meteorological variables.
• Creation of a web platform that visualises model outputs on a geographical map, providing decision support for preventing disease outbreaks.

Goals

Develop predictive models to estimate the risk of olive tree disease outbreaks, validate and calibrate them, and implement an interactive web‑based decision support system.

Technologies

• Frontend: React or Vue. js with responsive design.
• Backend: Python with Fast
  API or Django, REST API.
• Database: Postgre
  SQL with Post
  GIS.
• Model hosting: Docker containers on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or local server.
• Security: User authentication and data protection measures.

Workplace

Bragança, Ce
DRI, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, under the supervision of Maria João Tinoco Varanda Pereira.

Duration

Initial period of 6 months starting 17‑11‑2025, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 12 months.

Compensation

The fellow will receive a monthly grant of €1, 040. 98 and personal accident insurance. Social security contributions are handled through the Portuguese Social Security system.

Selection Methods

• Curriculum evaluation and suitability for the job (60%).
• Experience in research/professional activities related to the work (40%).

An interview may be held with the top two candidates, assessing motivation, availability, and knowledge, weighted at 20% of the total score. Candidates with a score below 9. 5 are not awarded the scholarship.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted through the IPB application portal (http://concursos. ipb. pt). Required documents include: certificate of qualifications, academic degrees or diplomas, and, if necessary, a declaration of honor. Recognition of foreign degrees must comply with Decree‑Law no. 66/2018 and Ordinance no. 33/2019.

The competition is open from 29‑10‑2025 to 12‑11‑2025.

Publication of Results

Results will be published on the IPB portal and, if necessary, provided by email.
