S2AQUA - Collaborative Laboratory, Association for Sustainable and Intelligent Aquaculture (S2AQUAco
LAB) opens a Research Fellowship (BI) competition for selection for 1 degree (M/F) in Communication, Multimedia, Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design, or equivalent to any of the above, to develop communication activities considering the objectives of the project and the Collaborative Laboratory.

Recipients (conditions required)
The scholarship is intended for holders of a bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Communication, Multimedia, Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design or equivalent. Candidates must be enrolled in an integrated master's degree, master's or doctorate, or in a course that does not confer an integrated degree, in the educational project of a higher education institution developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
Technical skills
- Experience in editorial design (production and editing of brochures and catalogues, etc. ).
- Experience in developing graphic identities (logos, typography, colour palette).
- Basic knowledge of digital marketing and graphic design in the context of social media (Instagram, Linked
In, X, etc. ) and an interest in science communication. - Knowledge of graphic design (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalents).
- Basic knowledge of UX/UI Design and website management (Word
Press or similar). - Proficiency in Portuguese and English, written and spoken (fluent).
Work plan
The work program of the grant holder includes the following activities:
- Collaborate with the communications department in planning, creating and publishing content on digital channels (Linked
In, Instagram, X, etc. ). - Develop graphic content for the website, social media, institutional communications, newsletters and other external communication platforms;
- Monitor progress and ensure compliance with project deliverables and milestones related to project communication;
- Collaborate in the development of content for videos, infographics, presentations, catalogues, brochures, and others;
- Create visual identities, branding, and institutional materials related to the project;
- Develop other activities related to communication, dissemination, marketing, and project design (including representing S2AQUAco
LAB at events, fairs, and similar initiatives, when requested).
The position includes a training component, and candidates interested in developing a Master’s thesis/internship within the scope of the project are encouraged to apply. It is desirable that, in exceptional cases, the candidate is available to work weekends and public holidays, and to travel nationally and internationally, depending on activities in progress.
Submission of applications
The contest is open between September 15 and 11:59 pm on September 29, 2025. Applications are formalized by sending an email to geral@s2aquacolab. pt indicating reference to the S2AQUAco
LAB/Bolsa/Ref_09/2025 grant call. Each candidate may submit only one application. The provision of false statements or acts of plagiarism is grounds for cancellation of the candidacy, without prejudice to other sanctioning measures.
Type and duration of the Fellowship
A Graduate Research Grant will be awarded. The fellowship will start to be agreed with the selected candidate, with a duration of 12 months and possibly renewable under the terms of article 15 of the S2AQUAco
LAB Fellowship Regulations, on an exclusive dedication basis. The work within this Fellowship is temporary and will not continue beyond the project duration. The fellowship must be carried out on an exclusive basis, in accordance with the S2AQUAco
LAB fellowship regulation and the FCT fellowship regulation based on Portuguese law 40/2004, amended by Decree-Law 123/2019.
Supervision and location
The fellowship takes place within the framework of S2AQUAco
LAB activities, at the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, Olhão, and at the headquarters of S2AQUAco
LAB. The work will be conducted under the guidance of Pedro Pousão Ph
D, President of the S2AQUAco
LAB board. Working hours are 40 hours per week.
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance
The scholarship amount is €1, 040. 98 per month (FCT approved). The grant holder is entitled to reimbursement of Voluntary Social Security charges (where applicable) and to personal accident insurance during the scholarship. Payment is monthly by bank transfer to the account provided by the holder.
Admissibility
Admissible applicants are: National citizens or EU citizens; Nationals of third countries; residence in Portugal permanently and habitually; must not have benefited from a research grant in companies directly funded by FCT. Application admissibility requires: detailed curriculum vitae; motivation letter; certificates of qualifications and degree; portfolio (optional); copy of identification document (later if placement); residence documents; letters of recommendation (optional); proof of enrollment in a relevant degree; declaration of professional status; declaration of meeting admission requirements (under oath); and reference to the grant call in the subject line. Documents not submitted within 15 days after results notification may jeopardize the award.
Selection methods and criteria
Applications are scored 0-20. Admission is granted to all who meet requirements. Evaluation is curricular (100%), with potential interview if needed. The criteria include: academic merit; experience in content creation for social media and web; content planning for websites and social media; knowledge of image editing and office tools; experience in graphic/editorial design for aquaculture or science communication; knowledge of production for final printing. If no candidates meet required experience, the jury may choose not to award the position. If necessary, a weighted score including an interview (40% CA, 60% interview) may determine final ranking.
Communication of results
Results announced at the indicated place or by email within 90 working days after the deadline. Candidates have 10 working days to respond; final decision within 60 working days after the prior hearing. The rules for holidays do not apply when the draft decision grants a scholarship to all candidates.
Approval and other information
The final decision will be proposed for approval by the S2AQUAco
LAB Board. After selection, the following documentation may be requested: identification documents, proof of residence, enrollment documentation, declaration of exclusivity, and IBAN.
