ASR Group is the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar. The company produces a full line of grocery, industrial, food service, and specialty sweetener products. Across North America, ASR Group owns and operates six sugar refineries in Louisiana, New York, California, Maryland, Canada, and Mexico. In Europe, the company owns and operates sugar refineries in England and Portugal. ASR Group also owns mills in Mexico and Belize. POSITION SCOPE
The Buyer will manage all Sidul plant capex and services (hard/soft) for the procurement team. This individual will be a key member of the site Corporate Engineering team, working with Operations and Maintenance teams on all site capex, services, contracts, compliance, negotiations, spend profiles, and supplier sourcing. Responsible for developing and implementing ASR’s purchasing strategy through vendor relationship management, contracts, project management, and supplier capabilities. The Capex & Services Buyer should work well in a team environment, handle high order volumes, follow process requirements, and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers. Up to 5% travel may be required, with efforts to leverage technology to minimize travel.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience with purchasing on an ERP system (SAP)
- Strong negotiation skills on price, terms, delivery, and volume with suppliers
- Ability to evaluate global/local suppliers based on various criteria
- Development and management of procurement plans
- Understanding of current and future markets for service and capex providers
- Experience in specifying, reviewing, and soliciting proposals for goods and services
- Ability to analyze issues independently and perform corrective actions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Word)
- Experience in

- driven purchasing environments - Understanding of TCO (total cost of ownership)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to present clearly to all organizational levels, including C-level
- Ability to work in an industrial/plant setting
- Proactive communication of risks and issues
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Skills and Attributes
- Analytical thinking and strong organizational skills
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP; MS Project experience preferred
- High energy, flexibility, integrity, and reliability
- Strong initiative and communication skills, bilingual in English and Portuguese a plus
- Critical thinking, judgment, and
- making capabilities - Financial resource management and persistence in obstacles
- Understanding of engineering and project management in process plants
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, mainly in Europe
Work Experiences
- Background in industrial services or project purchasing, preferably in manufacturing
- Experience in operations, project, or maintenance within relevant categories
- Knowledge of hard services management in a manufacturing environment, especially food/beverage
- Contract negotiation and management experience
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field from an accredited institution
