Cargo Director - Portugal
Role Purpose
Responsible for the effective management of the cargo business in Portugal to include facilities in Lisbon, Porto, Funchal and Porto Santo.
Main Accountabilities
- Oversee performance and operational effectiveness of cargo station managers at key hubs, ensuring efficient management of significant cargo volumes with a focus on safety, compliance, and service excellence.
- Provide overarching leadership and strategic direction for all cargo operations across Portugal.
- Support commercial initiatives to grow the cargo business, including identifying new opportunities, building customer relationships, and contributing to commercial proposals in coordination with the VP Portugal and VP Cargo Europe.
- Ensure all cargo operations meet or exceed regulatory and internal safety and security standards. Promote a
- first culture and manage incident response and mitigation where required. - Responsible for the financial performance of the cargo business in Portugal, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control. Ensure financial targets and KPIs are achieved across all cargo stations.
- Maintain contact and effective working relationships with external authorities (Airport authority, Civil Aviation Authority, Customs, and other regulatory bodies. )
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction. Engaging with airline customers to build strong working relationships to ensure continuity and to achieve positive service levels.
- Work with external suppliers and Menzies central services to enable operations to be fully resourced and to operate efficiently.
Qualifications, Competencies & Experience
- Strong leadership qualities and a desire to succeed.
- Educated to university entrance level as a minimum and a candidate with degree level education would be preferred.
- Be fluent Portuguese and have a high standard of spoken and written English language skills.
- Previous management experience within an aviation business, particularly in a cargo environment.
- Be able to communicate effectively to build relationships with a wide range of people from the
- line staff, supervisors, management and peers up to board level. - A track record of leading a large team in a complex cargo operation.
- Have knowledge of ISAGO standards and audit process.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to deliver against customer service level agreements and key performance indicators. (SLA’s and KPI’)
- Experienced in customer relationship management (CRM).
- Must have good interpersonal skills and demonstrate customer focus and organisational skills.
- The ability to challenge the status quo, identify new operational methods and identify new solutions to any barriers to success.
