The Role
We are recruiting recruiting a Cloud Engineering Manager to lead a team of skilled engineers responsible for driving the implementation, automation, of our strategic AWS-based internal developer platform. The platform is critical, underpinning the global services consumed by Flutters
- known betting brands and enhancing the productivity and experience of our engineering community.
This is a key leadership opportunity to significantly shape the technology choices and strategic direction of our global cloud platform. You will work across the group to ensure the platform meets the evolving needs of our internal customers. You will facilitate modernization and promote knowledge sharing across teams. Your leadership will be vital in guiding the team’s contributions to evaluating and selecting AWS services, platform tooling and components essential to achieving our groups strategic objectives.
The ideal candidate brings a proven experience leading engineering teams within enterprise organisations, ideally focused on cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or
- scale transformational projects. You possess a strong blend of people leadership, strategic thinking and technical credibility. Your
- obsessed and collaborative approach, coupled with a solid understanding of cloud solutions and platform engineering principals, allows you to build trust, guide your teams and make informed decisions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Team Leadership & Management: Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a
- performing team of cloud/platform engineers. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on ownership, delivery, and continuous improvement. Manage performance and support career development. - Strategic Planning & Direction: Define and articulate the
- term vision, strategy, and roadmap for the platform, aligning with business objectives and technology strategy. Identify needs, prioritise initiatives, and manage the backlog. - Platform Design & Implementation Oversight: Guide the team in designing, building, and operating robust, scalable, secure, and
- effective IDP components on AWS. Ensure best practices are followed for infrastructure, tooling (Ia
C, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Observability), and operational processes. - Engineering Excellence: Champion engineering best practices within the team and promote them across the wider organisation. Where required, provide technical guidance and ensure high standards for design, code quality, automation, testing, and operational readiness.
- Collaboration & Communication: Act as the primary interface for the platform team, working closely with software developers, product managers, architects, security teams, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate progress, manage expectations, and ensure the platform meets their needs.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimisation: Oversee the monitoring of the platform's health, performance, and cost. Drive initiatives to identify areas for improvement, enhance efficiency and reliability, and optimise resource utilisation.
- Cloud Platform Expertise & Guidance: Maintain a strong understanding of AWS services and
- native technologies (including Kubernetes, serverless, networking, security). Use this expertise to guide architectural decisions, technology choices, and
- solving within the team. - Process & Standards: Establish, document, and drive the adoption of standard operating procedures, policies, security controls, and runbooks for the IDP. Facilitate the development and communication of Flutter Group standards.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Liaise effectively with
- party vendors and partners and build strong relationships across other group functions.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven Leadership & Management: Demonstrable experience leading, managing, and mentoring a team of engineers, setting direction, fostering a positive culture, and driving results.
- Cloud Platform Expertise: Strong understanding and practical experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and their core services (compute, storage, networking, security, databases).
- Technical Proficiency & Credibility: Solid technical background in areas relevant to platform engineering:
- Infrastructure as Code (Ia
C - e. g. , Crossplane, Terraform, CDK) - Containerisation and Orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS preferred)
- CI/CD principles and tooling (Git

- technical stakeholders across a global organisation. - Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and
- solving skills, with the ability to guide teams through complex technical challenges. - Agile Methodologies: Experience working in and leading teams within agile environments.
- Experience with incident, change, problem, and risk management frameworks.
Nice to have
- Experience leading teams through
- scale cloud migrations or modernisations. - Deep expertise in specific areas like Kubernetes networking/security, advanced CI/CD patterns, or cost optimisation strategies.
- Experience managing platform budgets and vendor relationships.
- Relevant AWS or Kubernetes certifications (e. g. , AWS Solutions Architect, CKA/CKS).
- Previous
- on software engineering experience specifically around API strategy (design, lifecycle, governance & management.
