Cloud Software Engineer (including OnCalls duties)
Job Description
We’re looking for a seasoned Java developer to maintain and enhance existing software applications at Merkle, a dentsu company. The role involves supporting legacy systems, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, troubleshooting complex issues, and building scalable REST web services.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance existing Java applications, including On
Call duties - Provide day‑to‑day support and assist other teams
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand requirements and propose optimizations
- Conduct code reviews, recommend refactoring and performance improvements
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues promptly
- Design and develop scalable REST web services
- Implement and integrate Open
API specifications and Swagger documentation - Optimize SQL queries for efficient data retrieval and manipulation
- Leverage Elastic
Search to offload applications and enhance search performance - Use monitoring tools such as New
Relic, Grafana, or Kibana to improve system performance - Explore and evaluate new technologies and frameworks to improve architecture and development processes
- Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering their growth
- Ensure compliance with coding standards, best practices, and security guidelines
- Stay current with industry trends and share knowledge with the team
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Java developer or similar role
- At least 2 years of Java development experience with popular frameworks
- Solid understanding of REST services and API development
- Experience with containerization using Docker or Podman
- Proficiency in GIT version control
- Strong knowledge of SQL and database optimization
- Familiarity with front‑end technologies: Type
Script, Java
Script, HTML, XML, JSON - Experience with monitoring tools: Elastic
Search, New
Relic, Grafana, Kibana (plus) - Knowledge of Maven and Gradle; Scala is a plus
- Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
- Curious and open‑minded, strong customer service orientation
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
- Fluent in English
