Data Engineer in Test
Overview
We are looking for a Data Engineer who will be responsible for data quality across our data pipelines within the retail and
- commerce business domain. Your role will be to embed testing into transformations, define quality gates, and set up reliable validation methods to ensure trustworthy and reproducible datasets. In fact, you will be designing and maintaining
- modeled,
- grade data assets, keeping an eye on data health and SLAs, identifying and fixing issues with clear
- cause analyses, and enhancing documentation, observability, and alerting. You will work closely with analytics and business teams to convert requirements into verifiable data contracts and measurable quality outcomes. Although our core stack is dbt and Snowflake, we are more focused on good QA practices than on any specific tool.
Responsibilities
- Embed testing into data transformations and define quality gates.
- Design and maintain
- grade data assets with attention to data health and SLAs. - Identify and fix issues with clear
- cause analyses; enhance documentation, observability, and alerting. - Collaborate with analytics and business teams to translate requirements into verifiable data contracts and measurable quality outcomes.
- Promote good QA practices across data pipelines, independent of specific tooling.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in SQL and solid experience with data modeling.
- A mindset where tests are treated as real code, with familiarity in schema validations, constraints, custom test logic, anomaly detection, and monitoring.
- Experience integrating tests into CI/CD workflows and working with version control.
- Knowledge of debugging, performance optimization, and incident resolution in data pipelines.
- A strong understanding of QA methodologies applied to data engineering.
- Experience or interest in DBT and/or Snowflake (nice to have, not mandatory).
- Awareness of privacy, security, and compliance topics within data environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and
- technical stakeholders.
