Data Platform Engineer
Job Title: Data Platform Engineer (Postgres, Permissions & Data Ingestion)
Location: Remote
Type: Full-time
About Us
Oraion is your single source of truth for enterprise data. Oraion uses agentic AI to turn structured and unstructured enterprise data into
- obvious insights, instantly.
Oraion helps you make faster, more informed decisions and even automate complex tasks, all through a
- serve,
- based AI agent embedded in your existing workflow such as Slack, Teams or via our Enterprise Intelligence Platform.
We’re looking for a
- on,
- oriented Data Engineer to join our team and help empower businesses to unlock the full potential of their data.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Data Platform Engineer with strong Python & Postgre
SQL experience to help us build and evolve two core parts of our platform:
- A secure, scalable permissions and access control layer
- Backend features that automate and manage data ingestion pipelines within our Saa
S
This role is
- on and pragmatic, sitting close to the database and core backend services. You’ll work primarily with Postgre
SQL and Python, building systems that need to be correct, understandable, and easy to operate.
What you'll be working on
Permissions & Access Control
- Designing and maintaining Postgre
SQL schemas to support roles, permissions, and
- based access control (ABAC)
- Implementing and evolving
- level security (RLS) policies in Postgre
SQL
- Writing and optimising complex SQL queries, views, and functions with security and performance in mind
- Building and maintaining a Python backend service responsible for:
- Managing roles, permissions, and policies
- Validating and enforcing access rules
- Exposing clean APIs for the rest of the application
Data Ingestion Automation
- Building backend features that automate data ingestion workflows within the Saa
S
- Implementing logic to configure, trigger, and monitor ingestion pipelines (e. G. API-based imports, scheduled syncs,
- based ingestion)
- Designing database models to track ingestion state, metadata, and failures
- Working with existing ingestion tools and services rather than reinventing core infrastructure
- Improving reliability, observability, and debuggability of ingestion processes
Collaboration & Improvement
- Working closely with product, frontend, and data teams to translate requirements into robust backend and database designs
- Reviewing and improving existing permission and ingestion patterns as the platform evolves
- Writing clear, maintainable code and documentation for
- and
- critical systems
What we're looking for
- Around 5 years of professional backend engineering experience
- Strong Postgre
SQL knowledge, including:
- Schema design and migrations
- Indexing and query optimisation
- SQL functions and views
- Row-Level Security (RLS) and
- based permissions
- Strong SQL skills and a good understanding of how Postgres executes queries
- Solid experience building backend services in Python (e. G. Fast
API or similar)
- Experience working with data ingestion or integration workflows (APIs, ETL-style processes, or data sync jobs)
- Familiarity with authentication and authorisation concepts (RBAC, ABAC,
- privilege access)
- Comfortable working in production systems where data correctness and security matter
Nice to have
- Experience designing permission systems or
- tenant Saa
S architectures
- Exposure to Postgres internals such as query planning.
- Experience working with JSONB and
- structured data in Postgre
SQL
- Familiarity with orchestration or ingestion tools (e. G. Airflow, Dagster, dbt, dlt, or similar)
- Experience operating backend services in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or similar)
What this role is not
- Not a Dev
Ops or
- heavy role
- Not a pure data engineering role
- Not a security architect position
Why join us
- Work on core platform problems:
- grained permissions and reliable data ingestion
- Strong ownership of systems that directly impact customers
- A pragmatic engineering culture that values clarity, correctness, and maintainability
- Opportunity to deepen expertise in Postgre
SQL, backend architecture, and
- intensive systems
What We Offer
- Ground-floor opportunity to shape
- driven AI solutions at a
- growing startup
- Work alongside experienced founders and a driven team
- Competitive compensation + early equity
- Remote-friendly, flexible work culture
