DATA PROTECTION RISK ADVISOR
About The Job
Data Protection Advisor will act as a trusted advisor for BNP Paribas Business and Functions and oversee BNP Paribas DPOs, supporting the implementation, management and monitoring of the DPP strategy.
Responsibilities include definition, implementation and operationalization of the Group’s DPP framework by Group Entities.
Your Main Activities Are
- Advising on the maintenance of the Group’s DPP Governance and framework, and creation of DPP policies, guidelines and procedures for BNP Paribas.
- Independent review and challenge of technical and operational DPP controls, issuing recommendations on privacy, data protection and compliance with GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, PDPA, etc.
- Act as a trusted advisor of key internal stakeholders (CDOs, CISOs, DPOs, Business…) on managing DPP requirements.
- Oversight and challenge of complex transversal DPP initiatives, designing and rolling out the DPP strategy.
- Oversight and challenge of complex Group‑wide data processing impact assessments (DPIA), ensuring adequacy of controls and measures.
- Identify key DPP risks, inform BNP Paribas management and stakeholders, and oversee decisions to manage those risks.
- Oversight of key Group data breaches and other DPP incidents, working with stakeholders to identify incidents, conduct post‑mortem analysis and implement solutions.
- Monitor interactions with authorities and other external stakeholders, producing lessons learned for the BNP Paribas worldwide DPP community.
- Monitor global regulatory changes and authority decisions, providing risk anticipation advice to the DPP community.
- Promote data protection awareness and privacy‑by‑design culture across the Group, influencing the Group Learn & Development agenda.
- Attend regular ongoing data protection, information security, privacy training and continuous improvement.
Profile And Skills To Success
- University degree and relevant professional certifications (CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM, ISO27001, etc. ) in fields related to DPP and cybersecurity.
- Desirable experience working for a multinational company, preferably in finance, at a central or Group level.
- Experience as a consultant, advisor or auditor on data protection, privacy and information security initiatives (Privacy‑by‑Design, Data Flow Mapping).
- Experience analysing potential privacy incidents to mitigate risk and determining reporting requirements and corrective action plans.
- Desirable experience promoting a privacy culture and awareness.
- Experience communicating and presenting effectively to senior management.
- Experience managing stakeholders from different disciplines (IT, Risk, CDO, Legal, Compliance, Security, HR).
- Fluent in English; French is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of information security controls and principles ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive information.
- Understanding of large‑scale technology infrastructure and programs where large quantities of data are managed.
- Hybrid understanding of cross‑over requirements (risk, IT, regulatory, data security).
- Ability to evaluate DPP policies and regulations, producing actionable insight.
- Familiarity with privacy and security risk assessment, best practices, gap analysis and privacy certifications.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate across business lines and geographies.
- Rigor, attention to detail, flexibility and customer orientation.

- BNPP Group Personal Data Protection framework supports compliance with privacy regulations across BNPP territories.
- Data Protection Office (DPO) is part of the RISK Department, positioned in the 2nd Line of Defence and supports the Business Line DPO.
