We're hiring an experienced
Data Steward
to join our growing team in Porto. You'll play a key role in our transition from a Centralized to a Federated Data Governance Model, helping embed governance practices into

- day operations and ensuring that our X domain data is accurate,
- documented, and compliant.
What do you need to be a SMART Data Steward?
- 3+ years of experience in data management, business analysis, or a similar role
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and metadata management
- Familiarity with data governance tools (Data Catalogs, Data Quality Observability platforms)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with both business and technical stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and
- solving skills - Critical thinking and proactive mindset
- Willingness to learn quickly and continuously improve processes
- Experience with
- end scripting using Java
Script, Python, or similar languages - Basic knowledge of Git, including usage of branches, Git
Hub, or Git
Lab - Fluent in English
What will your role at SMART be?
- Ensure accurate documentation of X data assets in the enterprise data catalog
- Manage metadata (glossary, lineage) and processes to ensure proper use of data
- Maintain data lineage, transformations, and user interactions along the data pipeline
- Understand data flows and automate updates to tools that track data
- Update business terms within metadata management tools
- Support classification and tagging of sensitive or critical data
- Maintain and improve the quality, integrity, and accuracy of domain data assets
- Monitor key data quality indicators (DQIs) and resolve data issues collaboratively
- Collaborate with business and IT teams to define and enforce data standards, business rules, and validation checks
- Act as a point of contact for data governance activities within the domain
- Promote data literacy and awareness of data governance practices across teams
- Gather stakeholder requirements, prioritize effectively, and ensure delivery roadmaps
Nice to Have
- Experience with data visualization tools (e. G. , Power BI)
- Previous experience in federated or decentralized data governance environments
