We are seeking a talented Database Reliability Engineer to manage databases across multiple data centers and cloud environments. In this role, you will automate routine tasks such as patching, configuration management, and performance tuning, enabling the team to focus on more strategic, engineering‑driven initiatives.
Day to day:
- You will support our development lifecycle through feasibility, design and delivery to ensure the solutions we provide are automated, robust, scalable, maintainable and secure.
- You will promote and collaborate in the creation of solutions to drive automation, environment consistency, continuous delivery with an "everything as code" mentality.
- When appropriate you will lead on complex database tasks such as Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), very large table modifications, advanced query tuning and data migrations.
- Use your training budget and work time to keep up to date, and sometimes drive industry data platform trends and technology adoption.
- Collaborate with colleagues, application development teams, and with business stakeholders.
- Cross train peers in database development and administration. They will do the same for you.
- Provide out of hours production support as part of a 24/7 rota.
What we’re looking for from you:
- Working experience as a Database Engineer supporting Postgre
SQL and/or My
SQL in a production environment. - Public cloud experience using Open
Stack, GCP or AWS. - A Dev
Ops / automation first mindset, with experience using deployments with Ansible (or similar automation tool for config/admin). - Practical experience using scripting languages or programming frameworks (Python, Bash, Java, etc. ).
- System administration and tuning of Linux‑based servers.
- Strong working knowledge and experience using code versioning tools like Git.
- Experience configuring and using CI/CD tools (AWX, Git
Lab, Argo
CD). - Knowledge of containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) concepts.
- Experience supporting data warehousing (ODS/OLAP) technologies like Click
House, GCP Big
Query or Duck
DB is desirable, but not a pre‑requisite. - Willingness to work as part of a 24/7 on‑call rota.
- A team‑player mindset with ability to work autonomously in a dynamic environment and willing to take multiple initiatives forward at the same time.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical and decision‑making skills.
Interview Process: Our interview process consists of a short call with our internal talent team, followed by a 1‑hour technical interview and a 1‑hour competency interview. Our talent team will be there to give guidance and support you through the process.
