Positions are based at our Luxembourg headquarters and require regular office presence. The EIB offers a truly international and multicultural environment. The EIB, the European Union's bank, is recruiting for its Secretariat General (SG) – Economic Department (ECON) – Economic Studies Division (ES). Traineeships are 6 months, starting 1st March 2026.
Only applicants who are nationals of EU Member States or citizens of candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine) will be considered. Candidates with overlapping Erasmus+ programmes, or more than three applications, will not be considered.
Objective of the Traineeship
The objective of the traineeship is twofold:
- Contribute to analytical work: manage large macro‑economic, micro‑economic and financial databases, assist economists with econometric and statistical analysis, and prepare contributions to economic reports, policy briefs and weekly summaries.
- Gain valuable professional experience: work in an international financial institution, develop contacts, and learn the functioning of the EIB.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of an economist of the Economics Department, you will carry out work related to various projects including database development and management, econometric and statistical analysis for the EIB Investment Report and other reports, the weekly summary of key economic news, economic and policy briefs, country reports, and internal models for sovereign and bank industry risk ratings.
Your Main Tasks As Trainee Will Be To
- Extract, prepare, develop and manage large datasets for econometric and statistical analysis.
- Prepare basic descriptive statistics, charts, tables and short reports based on data analysis.
- Collaborate with economists in developing econometric and statistical models for data analysis.
- Assist economists in exploring and interpreting the results from the analysis, helping them prepare contributions to economic reports, policy briefs and weekly summaries.
Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills
- University education: Bachelor in economics, finance or data science, and ideally a MSc in economics, finance or data science; a Ph
D enrollee is acceptable. - Ability to work with statistical software such as Stata, R or Python.
- Good knowledge of applied economics, corporate finance, or econometric and statistical methods for macro‑economic, micro‑economic or financial data analysis.
- Previous experience with large database development and maintenance, including firm‑level data, is an advantage.
- Previous experience or studies focusing on firm dynamics, investment finance, corporate finance or financial sector performance is an advantage.
- Analytical skills and clear communication of results.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
