Engineering Manager - Chat Experience at Pager
Duty. Lead a
- focused,
- performing team within the Incident Management group to deliver
- time chat workflows and a
- class chat experience. This role is based in Lisbon, Portugal with a hybrid work model (2 days per week in the Lisbon office).
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with Product Management and senior engineers to create a vision and roadmap for chat experience.
- Work with Engineering, Product, and UX stakeholders to deliver seamless,
- friendly chat features. - Champion simplicity and usability in the chat experience by translating customer needs into reliable, scalable engineering solutions in collaboration with UX.
- Interface with internal engineering teams to resolve dependencies and integrate chat workflows across the Pager
Duty platform. - Make pragmatic
- off decisions on resourcing and priority. - Collaborate with other engineering leaders on
- team initiatives, both cultural and technical. - Define success metrics for chat features in partnership with Product and Design and ensure engineering delivery drives those outcomes.
- Support your team’s
- call rotation or incident command rotation, remaining available for escalations and production issues as needed. - Learn Pager

Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of overall experience in Engineering
- 2+ years of Engineering Management in a Saa
S organization - Proven experience building
- facing web applications or similar
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with
- scale systems and/or messaging or collaboration platforms, with knowledge of common pitfalls in over/under-engineering - Customer-first philosophy with strategic collaboration with Product to shape the chat roadmap
- Ability to balance planning with execution
- Proven ability to hire and develop engineers at varying levels of experience
- Excellent communication across all levels, empowering teams rather than prescribing solutions
- Technical depth to engage in design/code discussions when needed
- Clear sense of what constitutes good engineering and when to empower teams vs. escalate
