Responsibilities
As an Engineering Manager for the Core Experience team, you will be responsible for cultivating an environment where trust, respect, and collaboration thrive. You will lead by example, guiding a small team with integrity, empathy, and clarity. Your strong communication skills, ability to organize work effectively, and
- on approach will ensure that you’re never asking others to do what you wouldn’t do yourself. Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Leverage knowledge across multiple domains with growing expertise in a specific area; apply expertise and analytical skills to solve moderately complex problems across the team, with occasional
- functional impact; define and refine team strategies, goals, frameworks, systems, architecture and/or processes to drive impact within their scope; refine engineering roadmap, drive operational excellence, and create technology strategy for your team; focus on the health, happiness, and progression of every member on your team. - Complexity and Impact of Work: Embrace experimenting and building a
- autonomy team; leverage product instincts to raise the bar on output and collaborate with Product Managers and Product Designers to find better solutions; take ownership of complex challenges with some guidance when needed; help your team break down large initiatives into manageable tasks and priorities; navigate ambiguity and obstacles, seeking help when blocked; be accountable for delivering tactical business targets that impact your team; create an environment where knowledge is shared, define expectations and processes so the team can be autonomous; lead a team of engineers and be responsible for their quality of execution, timeliness, impact, and growth; mentor and provide coaching and feedback to elevate the team. - Organizational Knowledge: Monitor industry trends and internal objectives to inform
- setting and
- making; be a culture carrier who contributes to hiring by referring, interviewing, mentoring, and participating in recruiting events or presenting externally; work closely with Product Managers to define investment in our products and ensure harmony between product plans, team bandwidth, and the technical landscape and growth plans. - Communication and Influence: Approach remote collaboration as a feature; remove unnecessary meetings and jump on a call when needed; lead and communicate complex ideas and solutions with clarity and alignment; understand needs, motivations, and concerns of others and adapt communication for impact; work with other engineering managers, product management, people/recruiting, and the rest of engineering to drive team growth, retention, and hiring; proactively build relationships outside the scope of your team.
- You may be a fit for this role if you: Have demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and growing a geographically distributed team; have demonstrated experience in building robust,
- performance distributed applications and you thrive on tackling challenging architectural problems and enjoy collaborating with talented engineers to deliver impactful solutions; enjoy building services from scratch and supporting them over a meaningful period of time; genuinely care about code quality and test infrastructure; prioritize
- user experience and business value over “cool tech”; have developed “computer science fundamentals” (concurrency, algorithms, and data structures);
- describe as creative, humble, ambitious, detail oriented, hard working, trustworthy, eager to learn, methodical, action oriented, and tenacious. - Bonus points if you have experience in effective regulatory compliance controls, authorization and authentication.
