Your Role
Hello, I'm Pavel, Senior Director of Engineering at Web
Pros and your hiring manager. I've been with Web
Pros for over 19 years, starting as a developer. Over time, I transitioned to Team Lead of Plesk for Windows, then was Engineering Manager of several other teams, and now in a Director role, driving implementation of core products of the company - Plesk and c
Panel, and their licensing systems.
We're now hiring an Engineering Manager to join our team and help us consolidate our technical solutions across the company into a single unified licensing system. In this role you will be working
- on and act as an architect and individual contributor when needed. You will be focused on a unified a technical solution. Your contribution will be to lead the existing team to a unified and modern solution.
You'll thrive here if you love complex enterprise systems with high load and critical business impact. This is not a startup, you will need to modernize and unify while keeping everything working as a charm.
We're a global team, and we value proactivity, transparency, and thoughtful communication. During your work you will need to actively collaborate with other teams across globe.
Below, you'll find everything you need to decide if this role is right for you — from team existing rituals and culture to the specific expectations and interview process. We believe in transparency, so we've put in the effort to give you a real, inside look at what it's like to work here.
Your Impact in the First 180 Days:
We don't believe in endless checklists of requirements. Instead, here's what success looks like in your first 6 months:
- 30 Days: Became part of the team, learn processes and people, establish regular 1:1 with all team members, get a general overview of the product and technologies
- 60 Days: Get
- on experience with the product and processes. Try yourself in all relevant roles inside the team: being a developer, QA engineer, being a customer support ticket resolver, being Dev
Ops engineer, being a presenter on status report meetings. - 120 Days: Focus on delivery. After 4 months, you should be capable of driving changes related to technology initiatives.
- 180 Days: Proficient in the position, you can already say what is working well, what needs to be improved, and how we can achieve more results faster.
You'll thrive here if you:
- Like to design and build complex engineering systems
- Like to work with high load production services
- Like to improve existing legacy components with elegant modern technologies
- Because our work requires patience, discipline, and the ability to navigate legacy systems that can be messy sometimes, but incredibly meaningful. You need to be comfortable diving into ambiguity, asking questions, and building clarity through communication.
- Our Product: We're building Key Administrator, a unified licensing, billing, and client management platform designed to replace legacy systems inherited from our past acquisitions. Each acquired brand came with its own tools, creating increasing operational complexity. Key Administrator aims to streamline and consolidate this ecosystem into one robust,
- critical solution. Development started in August 2024, and the roadmap spans three years, with the system load expected to triple during this time. We're dealing with high telemetry volumes, complex usage tracking, and the need to build a system that supports a wide array of evolving business and partner requirements. - Communication: We are a fully remote,
- friendly team distributed mostly in the EEST timezone. Architecture decisions are made collectively as a team. We rely heavily on pair programming, and sometimes even collaborate in groups of three to solve more complex tasks and share domain knowledge. - Team Setup: Our team currently includes 5 developers, 2 QA engineers, 1 Dev
Ops engineer, a Product Manager, and YOU. Our target state is to grow to 7 developers. - Work Methodology: We use a Kanban-inspired approach. No sprints, no traditional planning rituals! We work in streams, continuously delivering value without artificial constraints.
- Rituals & Meetings: We hold daily syncs from 10:45 to 11:00 EEST to stay aligned, weekly meetings to reflect on past progress and discuss industry/company that can affect our plans, and monthly retrospectives to continuously improve how we work.
- Working Hours: Flexible, with alignment expected for any collaborative work. The daily sync is the only fixed time requirement.
- Testing Setup: Strong emphasis on automation and
- left testing. Quality is everyone's responsibility from day one. - Codebase: 100% of the work is on new features, but we frequently need to dig into legacy code to understand and replicate important business logic, some of which dates back over 25 years in products like c
Panel and Plesk. - Tech Stack & Tools
- Architecture: A mix of monolith + microservices.
- Languages: Java21, some Java17 (in total ~88% codebase), Kotlin (~12%), with additional use of Python and Bash for scripting and service tasks.
- Frameworks: Spring, Hibernate.
- Data: Postgre
SQL, Mongo
DB, Kafka. - Infrastructure & Tools: Linux, Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, Selenium, Prometheus, Graylog, Grafana.
- Agile: JIRA
- Development environment: Jet
