The security engineering team's primary responsibility is to respond to emerging threats and secure the open source ecosystem for community and enterprise use. Your work will involve addressing potential CVEs and vulnerabilities across Canonical products like Ubuntu, engaging with the community and customers, and coordinating with multiple engineering teams.
An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. Developing engineering talent, representing your team and product technically, and fostering collaboration are critical to success.
What you will do in this role
- Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels
- Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation
- Drive the development of new security engineering projects
- Collaborate with upstream open source projects on vulnerability lifecycle handling
- Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
- Identify and monitor team health indicators
- Implement disciplined engineering processes
- Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
- Develop and promote excellent engineering and organizational practices
- Plan and track progress on goals and projects
- Participate in the security engineering leadership team, collaborating with other leaders
What we are looking for in you
- Exceptional academic record from high school and university or an alternative compelling pathway
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience
- Drive and a history of exceeding expectations
- Excellent English communication skills
- Passion for developing people and a proven track record
- Organized, ensuring timely,
- quality results - Professional manner with colleagues, partners, and community
- Solid software development background, including support and maintenance
- Mastery in any programming language (Go, Java, C, Python, etc. )
- Knowledge and passion for software and application security
- Experience working in an agile environment
- Continuous learner with a drive for growth
- Builds trust and strong relationships
- Result-oriented with a commitment to deliverables
- Willingness to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each
