We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to work collaboratively across teams including product managers and engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and
- friendly experiences for Canonical products.
As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility is to support your team: fostering growth, ensuring valuable work, and maintaining a positive environment. You should have a strong background in web development and leadership to challenge and grow your team members. You will influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution.
Location: This role is remote within the EMEA region.
The role entails:
- Demonstrating sound engineering principles by contributing directly to team goals.
- Estimating work, setting goals, and achieving them.
- Designing and implementing
- tested, documented software in Web technologies or Flutter. - Debugging and fixing user issues.
- Participating in engineering reviews and collaborating on technical specifications.
- Contributing to technical documentation and seeking improvements in engineering and operations practices.
- Deploying and operating
- developed services. - Contributing to product success through technical advocacy.
What we are looking for:
- Passion for web and software development.
- Soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful,
- motivated. - Strong academic background in high school and university, or a compelling alternative path.
- Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience.
- Proven drive and ability to exceed expectations.
- Organized,
- starting, and reliable in meeting deadlines. - Professional interaction with colleagues, partners, and community.
- Experience designing
- quality web technologies. - Experience with Typescript, React, or Flutter.
- Focus on accessibility and performance.
- Proficiency in English.
- Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
- Interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Willingness to travel twice a year for company events.
Nice-to-have skills:
- Experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, Kubernetes.
- Experience in building and maintaining teams.
- REST API design and governance.
- Performance engineering and security expertise.
