NOTICE for ONE (1) Research studentship/S, UNDER THE FCT PLURAL-YEAR FINANCING CONTRACT PROJECT OF i2ADS 2025-2029 (REF UIDP/04395/2025), AT THE FACULTY OF FINE ARTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO (FBAUP).
The Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP) hereby opens this call for applications for one (1) research studentship, for a student enrolled in a master, to carry out R&D activities within the FCT Plural-Year Financing Contract Project of i2ADS 2025-2029 (ref. UID/04395/2025), ongoing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, under the following conditions:
1. Research area/s:
Art and Design.
2. Admission requirements:
- Degree in Communication Design, Graphic Design, Digital Design or Multimedia [1] ;
- To be a student enrolled in a master in the area of Arts and Humanities or other related areas - this requirement must be proven at the time of contracting2;
3. Preferred requirements:
- Professional experience in graphic production and editorial projects, proven by documentation.
- Availability to begin the work from January 2026, mentioning it in the motivation letter.
4. Work Plan:
4. 1. The purpose of this contract is to perform the following tasks:
- Production of graphic materials, audiovisual recordings, and digital and multimedia support resulting from i2ADS activities.
- Editorial production of publications resulting from i2ADS activities.
- Promotion of a policy for disseminating i2ADS research activities and results.
- Updating of i2ADS web platforms, social networks, and newsletter.
4. 2. When the academic degree or diploma is awarded during the term of the studentship contracts, the studentship may continue as long as the activities provided for in the work plan have not been completed and under the terms specifically provided for in the call for applications and in the contract, in accordance with Article 10(6) of the University of Porto's Research Studentship Regulation.
5. Applicable Legislation and Regulations:
The call for applications and the respective award of the studentship are governed by the provisions of the University of Porto's Research Studentship Regulation - approved by Regulation no. 184/2021, published in Diário da República , 2. ª Série, n. 43, 03rd March, hereinafter referred to as the Regulations no. 43, of 03rd March; the legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions; the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA), approved by Decree-Law no. 4/2015, of 7th January; the Research Fellow Statute (EBI), approved by Law no. 40/2004, of 18th August, in the current wording published by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28th August and; other applicable rules.
6. Workplace:
The work plan will be developed at the i2ADS — Research Institute in Art, Design and Society of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, under the scientific supervision of Fabrício Mário Maia Fava (Assistant Researcher and integrated member of the i2ADS).
7. Duration:
The scholarship contract, with a duration of 12 months and on a
- time basis, may be renewed for equal or different periods, according to institutional needs and financial availability, up to the maximum duration of the project, and may in no case exceed the limits defined in the Regulations for the type of scholarship in question.
8. Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
8. 1. The monthly maintenance allowance for the studentship is 1. 040, 98 €, in accordance with Annex I of the University of Porto's Research Studentship Regulation.
8. 2. Payment will be made by FBAUP by bank transfer. In addition to this allowance, the studentship holder will be covered by personal accident insurance.
8. 3. The studentship holder can join the Voluntary Social Insurance Scheme (valid for a studentship contract of six months or more), which is optional (not compulsory) and the reimbursement corresponds to the 1st step of the contribution base.
9. Evaluation methods:
9. 1. The selection methods are as follows: curricular assessment (AC – abbreviation in Portuguese) with a weighting of 70% and, optionally, complemented by an interview (ENT – abbreviation in Portuguese) with a weighting of 30%, which will only take place when the Jury considers that the AC does not allow it to clarify, in the intended manner, the real competences of the candidates or to distinguish which candidate is best suited to the position and functions to be performed. If this is the case, the interview will be carried out with the 3 (three) candidates best classified in the AC.
9. 2. Each member of the Jury will assess the selection methods on a scale of 0 to 100 points.
9. 3. The criteria and weighting factors for the curricular assessment (AC) are:
- Final classification of the degree course in Communication Design, Graphic Design or Digital and/or Multimedia Design (from 0 to 50 points):
- Grades from 10 to 12 values – 10 points.
- Grades from 13 to 14 values – 20 points.
- Grades from 15 to 17 values – 30 points.
- Grades from 18 to 20 values – 50 points.
- Professional experience scored by evaluating the graphic quality of the products presented in the portfolio and the curriculum vitae (40 points):
- Not very relevant – 5 points.
- Sufficient – 10 points.
- Good – 15 points.
- Very good – 30 points.
- Excellent – 45 points.
- Letter of motivation including a brief description referring to the conditions of preference in the field of graphic production and editorial projects and mentioning immediate availability (from 0 to 5 points).
9. 4. The interview (ENT), should it be held, is based on a presentation made by the candidate about their work, lasting a maximum of 10 minutes, clarifying aspects related to their academic and professional background. The interview assessment criteria are explained below, and will be weighted as indicated (0 to 100 points):
E1. Aspects related to the work carried out (up to 60 points):
- The ability to describe the work carried out, in training and/or professionally, evaluates the ability to express oneself and discursive fluency (up to 30 points).
- Demonstration of involvement in other teams or work groups evaluates the candidate's behaviour in terms of relationship and spirit of collaboration (up to 30 points).
E2. Other relevant aspects for the development of the activity (up to 40 points):
- The motivation for the development of communication and dissemination activities evaluates professional awareness and ambition (up to 20 points).
- The motivation for involvement in research activities in the field of design evaluates the impact of the grant on the applicant's future work (up to 20 points).
9. 5. The candidates may ask the President of the Jury to authorise their interview to be conducted by videoconference, stating the reasons for this.
9. 6. Failure to attend the interview stage of the selection process is equivalent to withdrawing from the competition, and applicants will be excluded from the competition.
9. 7. The Final Classification (CF - abbreviation in Portuguese) will be obtained by applying the following formula: CF = (0, 7*AC) + (0, 3*ENT). If there is no interview, CF = AC.
9. 8. This competition is intended exclusively to fill the vacancy indicated. In the event that no candidate demonstrates that they have the profile required to fulfil the work plan described above within the scope of this project, the Jury reserves the right not to award the position.

11. Submission of applications:

- Curriculum Vitae, with full name, address indication and email.
- Copy of the certificate(s) of required qualifications.
- the respective recognition of the academic degree(s), if obtained from a Foreign Higher Education Institution - to be provided until the hiring process to demonstrate compliance with the minimum admission requirement indicated in paragraph a) of point 2 of this notice.
- Proof of enrollment in a master's degree in the area of Arts and Humanities or other related areas (requirement to be duly proven at the time of hiring).
- Motivation Letter, referring to the preferred conditions indicated in paragraph b) of point 3 of this notice.
- Portfolio that proves practice in graphic and editorial design, indicated in paragraph a) of point 3 of this notice.
- Statement of eligibility (attached).
11. 4. The candidates may also attach any other documents they feel are relevant to assessing their merit.
11. 5. Failure to comply with the application submission deadline, failure to submit or late submission of the documents referred to in points a), b), e), f) and g) of paragraph 11. 3. will result in the application being excluded.
11. 6. For the purposes of evaluating applications, no documents whose access is provided through links will be considered, with the exception of those that refer to publications with DOI.
11. 7. The documents referred to in point 11. 3. should be submitted, preferably, in a
- editable format.
11. 8. The Jury may, whenever it deems necessary, request the candidates to submit complementary documents of the facts referred to in the curriculum presented, determining a deadline for this purpose, in the following terms:
- The documentation referred to is not intended for the presentation of elements not referenced in the curriculum vitae, nor for the addition of missing documents required in this Notice.
- All tenderers are informed that additional documentation has been requested.
False statements made by candidates will be penalised in accordance with the law.
13. Notification of results:
13. 1. All notifications under this procedure will be made by email, via the APPLY platform.
13. 2. Notifications shall be made by email, in accordance with Articles 112(1)(c) and 113(5) of the Code of Administrative Procedure.
13. 3. Pursuant to the provisions of Article 121 et seq. of the Administrative Procedure Code, after being notified, candidates have 10 working days to respond in writing.
14. Reserve list:
A reserve list will be compiled based on the final ranking list, which can be used if the
- placed applicant withdraws. The Faculty's highest authority reserves the right to call the next applicant, and so on, until the vacancy is filled. This reserve list may be used for a maximum period of 12 (twelve) months from the date of the publication of this Notice.
