1 Research Initiation Grant (M/F)

Call open for applications for a Research Initiation Grant under the project “AGRO-CIRN - Circular Agroecosystems: new approach to soil health in the north region”, with operation code at the Funds Platform (Balcão dos Fundos) NORTE2030-FEDER-02703200,
- financed by NORTE 2030, Portugal 2030, and the European Union, within the Call NORTE2030-2024-84 (SACCCT - Sistema de Apoio à Criação de Conhecimento Científico e Tecnológico - Projetos Integrados de IC&DT).

Admission requirements:

• Enrollment in a higher technical professional course, bachelor's degree, integrated master's, or master's in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Bioengineering, or related fields, proven at signing of the contract.
• Or holder of a bachelor's degree enrolled in a
  - academic degree course in higher education, developed in cooperation with R&D units, proven at signing of the contract.

Foreign degrees must comply with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, and formalities must be fulfilled before signing the contract.

• The scholarship can only be awarded to those with a maximum of one year of similar scholarships, including renewals.
• Cannot be awarded to those who have benefited from FCT-funded research grants under Research Grant Holder Status.

Activity Outline: The candidate will work on decontamination and disinfection processes for soilless plant substrates, focusing on thermal and chemical methods, and identify stakeholders in the horticultural sector for collaboration networks.

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, and FCT regulations, and University of Porto regulations.

Workplace: LEPABE - Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology, and Energy, FEUP, under Professor Vera Homem.

Grant duration: 3 months starting September 2025, renewable but not exceeding project end date, with possible adjustments for shorter durations as per regulations.

Curricular evaluation will consider academic background, laboratory experience, and motivation letter, with a scoring system and interview for top candidates. A minimum score of 10 points is required for awarding.
