Offer Description

Open call for a Research Initiation Grant for the project “AGRO-CIRN - Circular Agroecosystems: new approach to soil health in the north region”, funded by NORTE 2030, Portugal 2030, and the European Union, under the NORTE2030-2024-84 call.

Admission requirements:

• Enrollment in a higher technical professional course, bachelor's, integrated master's, or master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Bioengineering, or related areas, to be proven at contract signing.
• Or, holder of a bachelor's degree enrolled in a
  - academic course developed in cooperation with R&D units, to be proven at contract signing.
• Foreign degrees must comply with Decree-Law no. 66/2018.
• The scholarship cannot exceed one year in this type of scholarship, including renewals.
• Cannot be awarded to those who have already benefited from similar research grants funded by FCT.

Activity Outline: The candidate will work on studying and optimizing decontamination and disinfection processes for soilless plant substrates, focusing on thermal and chemical methods, and identifying stakeholders for collaboration in the horticultural sector.

Legislation: Governed by Law Nº. 40/2004 and FCT regulations.

Workplace: LEPABE Laboratory, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, FEUP, supervised by Professor Vera Maria Ferreira da Cruz Homem.

Grant Duration: 3 months, starting September 2025, renewable but not exceeding the project end date. Duration may be adjusted if necessary, with a minimum of 1 month.

Selection Criteria: Academic background, laboratory experience, motivation letter, and interview performance (additional points). Minimum score to qualify is 10 points.
