Preamble
By order of the Director of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, Professor Domingos de Carvalho Ferreira, of June 4th 2025, it is hereby made public that this international selection tender procedure is open for a period of15 (fifteen) businessdays from the business day immediately following the publication in the Diário da República of Order (extract) No. 6616, of June 13th, 2025, to hire an Assistant Researcher in the scientific areas of Medical and Health Sciences or related areas, under an individual employment contract for an indefinite period, under the Labor Code.
Governing Law
The competition and its contracting are governed by the provisions contained in Regulation No. 487/2020 - Regulation of Research, Science and Technology Personnel of the University of Porto, published in the Diário da República , 2nd series, No. 100, of May 22, and by other applicable legislation, namely the Labor Code - approved by Law No. 7/2009, of February 12, in its current wording; the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA) - approved by Decree-Law No. 4/2015; as well as other applicable regulatory standards.
I – Characterization of the Workplace

- Funding
This competition is open under the complementary funding programme contract 2021-2025 of the Associated Laboratory Institute for Health and Bioeconomy - I4HB, reference LA/P/0140/2020, established between FCT and UCIBIO/FFUP, to support the development of scientific and technological activity, valid until 31 December 2025. After the end of this programme contract, the contract will be funded by other sources to be identified by the host institution.
- Workplace
The workplace is located in the Microbiology Laboratory at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, or at any other location necessary for carrying out the activities of the
- contract, or for performing the duties for which you are contracted, and/or indispensable for your professional training.
- Compensation
The gross monthly remuneration will be €3 501, 28, corresponding to the 1st position, level 9 of the table attached to Regulation No. 487/2020; or to the 1st position, index 195 of the table attached to the Statute of the Scientific Research Career – Decree-Law No. 124/99, of April 20, as amended, on an exclusive basis, to which are added the holiday and Christmas allowances, as well as the food allowance, in the amount and with the conditions provided for workers in public functions.
- Contract Regime
7. 1. The Assistant Researcher will be hired under an indefinite employment contract, with a
- year trial period, under Article 48 (2) of Regulation No. 487/2020.
7. 2. The Researcher will perform his/her duties, as a rule, on an exclusive dedication basis, under Article 39 (1) of Regulation No. 487/2020.
- Functional Content
8. 1. According to Article 8 (1) of the Regulation, the duties of the research personnel include the following aspects:
- Research;
- Transfer and valorisation of knowledge;
- Management and communication of science and technology and other tasks;
- Teaching and training activities, when applicable and by the terms of article 12 of Regulation No. 487/2020.
8. 2. The Assistant Researcher, in accordance with no. 1 of article 13 of the Regulation, will be responsible for carrying out, on a regular basis, research and development activities, as well as all other scientific and technical activities included in the mission of the FFUP and also:
- Participate in the design, development and execution of research and development projects, and related scientific and technical activities;
- Guide the work carried out within the scope of the projects under their responsibility;
- Collaborate in the development of training actions within the scope of research and development methodology;
- Monitor the research work carried out by scholarship holders, research interns and research assistants;
- Collaborate in teaching and participate in the institution's training programs;
- Guidance for higher education students, especially undergraduate, master's and doctoral students;
- Perform the functions for which they have been elected or appointed in the collegiate bodies of the institution to which they belong.
II - Selection Process
- Admission requirements
9. 1. Generaladmission requirements
Eligible candidates for this position include national, international, and stateless individuals who have been conferred a doctoral degree* in the scientific areas of Microbiology or related areas. Candidates must demonstrate a documented track record of scientific and professional achievements in the competition's specified research domain, and possess expertise aligned with the scope of activities outlined in Section 8 of this Notice.
If a foreign higher education institution has granted the qualification, it must be recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of point 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 60/2018 of August 3; additionally, any formalities established therein must be fulfilled before the date of celebration of the contract.
9. 2. Special admission requirements
For the purposes of determining the appropriate profile for the activity to be carried out, the following special requirements are required:
- Minimum of 4 years of
- doctoral experience in the area ofthe competition and, more specifically, in molecular epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance; - Knowledge and experience in the application of molecular typing methods in epidemiological surveillance and infection control of pathogenic bacteria;
- Experience in the application of FT-IR spectroscopy to bacterial characterization and differentiation;
- Experience in multivariate data analysis tools applied to spectral analysis;
- Experience in analysis and interpretation of
- genome bacterial data in the context of epidemiological surveillance, evolution and adaptation of pathogenic bacteria;
9. 3. Failure to meet the requirements mentioned in points 9. 1 and 9. 2 of this Notice will result in the application's exclusion.
- Preferential Requirements
For the purposes of evaluating candidates for the competition, the preferential requirements are as follows:
- Participation in the development of diagnostic methods for detecting
- resistant bacteria with application in the area of
Clinical Microbiology; - Participation in research projects funded by national and international entities, including as Principal Investigator;
- Experience in supervising students at different levels of education (undergraduate, master's and doctorate);
- Ability to establish collaboration networks at national and international level and attract research resources;
- Experience and active involvement in technology and knowledge transfer activities for the community;
Participation in scientific committees and organizers of national and international scientific events.
- Selection methods
Under the provisions of Article 26 of Regulation No. 487/2020, the following selection methods will be applied:
- Evaluation of the scientific and curricular path of candidates (APCC) (70%);
Interview (ENT), to be held to the candidates best positioned in the APCC, in a maximum of 3 (30%).

12. 1. The evaluation of the scientific and curricular course will take into account the profile appropriate to the requirements of the functions corresponding to the category to which this competition refers, focusing on the relevance, quality and timeliness of the following aspects:
- Scientific performance in areas relevant for the function advertised in the Notice;
- Transfer and valorisation of knowledge;
- Management and communication of science and technology;
- Teaching and training.
12. 2. In evaluating the aspects referred to in points a) and b) of the previous point, the activity carried out in the last five (5) years, counted until the closing date of the application period, must be taken into account.
12. 3. The period of five years referred to in paragraph 12. 2. may be increased by the Jury when based on the suspension of scientific activity for socially protected reasons, namely, for reasons of parental leave, severe prolonged illness, and other situations of unavailability for work legally protected, provided that the request is duly substantiated and proven by the candidates.
12. 4. In the application of the aspects referred to in point 12. 1. the following parameters are evaluated, to which the indicated weighting factors are assigned:
12. 4. 1. Criteria for assessing Scientific Performance (DC):
DC. Personal CV in the specific area and domain for which the recruitment process is open (which reflects the scientific and professional path), (e. g. coordination and participation in national and international research projects, editing of international journals, publications in international journals, awards, participation in editorial boards of scientific journals, coordination and participation in program committees of scientific events) (80%).
12. 4. 2. Criteria for assessing Knowledge Transfer and Enhancement (TVC):
TVC. Dissemination of science and technology. Coordination and participation in scientific and technological dissemination initiatives within the scientific community (e. g. , organization of congresses and conferences, presentation of papers at congresses and lectures by invitation) for various audiences (10%).
12. 4. 3. Criteria for assessing Science and Technology Management and Communication (GCCT):
GCCT. Science and technology management and communication activities, in the area for which the recruitment process is open: (a) collaboration in committees and evaluation boards for activities of a technical and scientific nature, promoted by national or international entities, especially within the scope of competitions for projects, scholarships, contests or awards; b) The exercise of positions or functions in the bodies of the U. Porto, its Organic Units or Autonomous Services or Research Units and Centers, and in permanent or temporary committees, positions and tasks of societies or other scientific organizations (5%).
12. 4. 4. Criteria for assessing Teaching and Training (DF):
DF. Teaching activity and advanced training: a) experience of teaching activity carried out by the candidate in the specific area and domain for which the recruitment process is open; b) advanced training (Ph
D supervision, Masters and training activities) in higher education institutions in the indicated recruitment area; c) participation in training activities, workshops, seminars or formal courses in pedagogical training, didactics or communication skills (5%).
12. 5. The following formula obtains the final classification of the APCC:
APCC= 0, 80 x DC + 0, 1 x TVC + 0, 05 x GCT + 0, 05 x DF
- Interview Evaluation (ENT)
13. 1. At the interview stage, up to a maximum of 3 candidates with the best classification in evaluating the scientific and curricular course will be admitted.
13. 2. The Interview will last for a maximum of one hour and will be conducted in English.
13. 3. The Interview evaluation criteria will be as follows, with the indicated weighting factors to be attributed:
ENT1. Aspects related to the research carried out by the candidates (50%), to which the indicated weighting factors are assigned:
- Ability to describe the activities carried out within the scope of the research carried out (25%). The ability to express oneself and verbal fluency, coherence and discursive clarity will be assessed;
- Capacity for projection and impact assessment (25%). The vision and ability to express the impact of the research carried out will be assessed, as well as its projection within the area to which the competition refers.
ENT2. Other aspects relevant to the development of the candidate’s activity (50%), to which the indicated weighting factors are assigned:
- Ability to develop research activities autonomously (25%): assesses the candidate's ability to autonomously develop the proposed research activities;
- Ability to develop activities to seek funding for research projects (25%): assesses the candidate's ability, initiative and strategy to raise funding for science.
13. 4. The following formula obtains the Interview classification:
ENT = 0, 5 x ENT1 + 0, 5 x ENT2
13. 5. The lack of attendance of candidates for the interview phase is equivalent to withdrawing from the tender procedure and entails their exclusion from the procedure.
- Final Classification (CF)
The Final Classification (CF) of the Scientific and Curricular Pathway Assessment (APCC) and Interview (ENT) will be obtained by applying the following formula:
CF = (APCC*0, 7) + (ENT*0, 3)
If the interview does not occur, the final classification is obtained in APCC.
15. Valuation of Selection Methods
Each member of the jury evaluates the candidates' scientific and curricular path and the Interview on a scale from 0 to 100 points, with a valuation up to hundredths, with the classification obtained through the weighting defined in the criteria to be evaluated.
16. 1. After the admission of the candidates, and before starting the votes for their ordering in the evaluation of the scientific and professional path, each member of the Jury presents a written document, to be attached to the minutes, with the ordered list of candidates, in descending order of merit, duly substantiated, considering the criteria and parameters of the Notice of the contest.
16. 2. The jury deliberates using nominal votes based on the selection criteria adopted and published, and abstentions are not allowed.
16. 3. The serialisation methodology to follow is that indicated in Article 29 of Regulation No. 487/2020.
16. 4. Each member of the Jury shall respect, in the various votes, the order presented in the document referred to in paragraph 16. 1.
16. 5. Minutes of the jury meetings are drawn up, which contain a summary of what has occurred in them, as well as the votes cast by each member and their reasons.
