CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR ONE RESEARCH STUDENTSHIP (BI) FORTHE PROJECT“WAVES” (NORTE2030-FEDER-02716600), AT THE CENTRE FOR RESEARCH AND INTERVENTION IN EDUCATION (CIIE) OF THE FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATION SCIENCES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO (FPCEUP)
A call for applications is now open for a research studentship (BI) for graduates within the scope of the “WAVES project - Seawater and Wastewater: Turning Challenges into Resources”, with the operation code, at the Blacão do Fundos, NORTE2030-FEDER-02716600,
- financed by NORTE 2030, Portugal 2030 and the European Union, under Notice NORTE2030-2024-84 (SACCCT - Support System for the Creation of Scientific and Technological Knowledge - Integrated IC&DT Projects). WAVES project is currently underway at the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) and locally coordinated by Sofia Castanheira Pais.
1. Scientific field: Educational Sciences.
2. Admission requirements, to be proven by documentary evidence:
All individuals of legal age who meet the requirements below, supported by documentary evidence, may apply for this studentship:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree [1]. in Educational Sciences or related areas;
- Be enrolled in the master’s course in Educational Sciences, a requirement to be proven at the date of hiring. Alternatively, they may be enrolled in a
- degree course that is part of the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association with or in cooperation with one or more R&D units, a requirement that must be demonstrated at the time of hiring. - Proficient command of the Portuguese language (only applicable if the candidate is not a native speaker of Portuguese, in which case he/she must submit a supporting document).
3. Preferred requirements (for which documentary evidence must be provided):
- Proven research experience using quantitative and/or qualitative methods as part of academic work or projects, with details of the research tasks in which the candidate was involved.
- Work experience (even if voluntary) with children and/or young people in schools or other educational contexts, whether formal or informal.
- Proficiency in English.
- Interest and commitment to developing a master's thesis related to the project topic and in coordination with the scientific supervisor.
- Immediate availability (to be mentioned in the letter of motivation).
4. Work plan:
The studentship holder will support the project team in carrying out the tasks outlined in the application, while also collaborating on other activities aligned with the project’s objectives, namely providing support for the following tasks:
- Conducting literature reviews.
- Participating in the collection and analysis of data within the project.
- Contact with teachers and schools and monitoring of the training to be carried out.
- Collaborating on the writing of reports and scientific articles and presenting work at scientific meetings.
- Organising meetings and dissemination events.
- Assisting in other functions to support the management and execution of the project’s research and dissemination activities.
5. Applicable law and regulation:
This call for applications and respective award of the studentship are governed by the provisions of the Research Studentship Regulation of the University of Porto – approved by Regulation 184/2021, published in Diário da República , 2nd Series, no. 43, of 3 March. It is governed also by: legal framework for the Recognition of Academic Degrees and Higher Education Diplomas Awarded by Foreign Higher Education Institutions; Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA), approved by the Decree-Law no. 4/2015, on 7 January; the Research Fellow Statute (EBI), approved by Law no. 40/2004, on 18 August, in its current wording published by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, on 28 August; Research Fellowship Regulation no. 950/2019, of 16 December, of the FCT, in its current wording; and other applicable rules.
6. Workplace:
The workplace shall be located at CIIE facilities at FPCEUP, Rua Alfredo Allen, 4200-135 Porto, or at other locations necessary for carrying out the work plan, under the scientific supervision of Sofia Castanheira Pais.
7. Duration and start of the studentship
7. 1. The research studentship will have a duration of 12 months, scheduled to start in December 2025. The studentship, on a
- time basis, may be renewed for equal or different time periods, according to institutional needs and subject to financial availability, up to the maximum duration of the project. It may not under any circumstances exceed the limits defined in the Regulations for the type of grant in question.
7. 2. For enrolment in study cycles that do not lead to an academic degree, the scholarship has a maximum duration of one year. In the case of graduates who are enrolled in courses that do not lead to an academic degree, the scholarship can only be awarded to those who, upon signing the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, do not exceed a cumulative period of two years in this type of scholarship, whether consecutive or intermittent.
8. 2. Payment will be made by FPCEUP by bank transfer. The studentship holder will also be covered by personal accident insurance.
8. 3. The studentship holder can join the Voluntary Social Insurance Scheme (valid for a grant of six months or more), which is optional (not compulsory), and the reimbursement corresponds to the 1st step of the contribution base.
9. Selection methods:
9. 1. The selection methods are as follows: curriculum evaluation (CE) with a weighting of 70% and, optionally, supplemented by an interview (INT) with a weighting of 30%, which will only take place when the panel considers that the CE does not allow it to clarify, as intended, the actual skills of the candidates or to distinguish which candidate is best suited to the position and duties to be performed. If applicable, the interview will be held with the three candidates with the highest CE scores.
9. 2. Each member of the selection panel evaluates the selection methods on a scale of 0 to 100 points.
9. 3. The criteria and weighting factors for the curriculum evaluation (CE) are as follows:
- Academic background and its suitability for the activities to be performed – 40%.
- Proven research experience using quantitative and/or qualitative methods – 15%.
- Work experience with children and/or young people in schools or other educational contexts, formal or informal – 15%.
- Commitment to developing a master's thesis related to the project topic and in coordination with the
- Scientific supervisor – 20%.
- Motivation and interest in the study topic – 10%.
9. 4. If the interview is held, it will evaluate:
- a) Communication skills and verbal fluency in Portuguese and English (40%).
- b) Specific knowledge for carrying out the work plan (60%).
9. 5. Candidates may request authorisation from the chair of the selection panel to conduct their interview via videoconference, stating their reasons for doing so.
9. 6. Failure to attend the interview stage of the selection process will be considered as withdrawal from the competition, and candidates will be excluded from the competition.
9. 7. The Final Classification (FC) will be obtained by applying the following formula: FC = (0. 70CE) + (0. 30INT).
9. 8. Candidates who have obtained a score of 50 points or less in the FC will be excluded from the competition.
9. 9. This competition is intended exclusively to fill the vacancy indicated. In the event that no candidate demonstrates that they have the profile indicated for the performance of the work plan described above, the selection panel reserves the right not to award the position.

11. How to apply and application deadline:

11. 3. The application must be accompanied by documents proving that the requirements set out in this Notice have been met, namely:
- Curriculum vitae (in Portuguese), indicating your full name, address and
- mail address, and detailing your previous experience in research projects and other responsibilities and tasks in which you have been involved. - Copy of your degree certificate to prove compliance with the minimum admission requirement indicated in point 2(a) of this notice.
- Recognition of academic degree, if obtained from a foreign higher education institution – to be proven by the time of hiring), to prove compliance with the minimum admission requirement indicated in point 2(a) of this notice;
- Proof of enrollment in a master's degree in Education Sciences or, alternatively, in a
- degree course integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, to prove compliance with the minimum admission requirement indicated in point 2(b) of this notice (to be proven by the time of hiring); b) of point 2 of this notice (to be proven until the moment of hiring); - Letter of motivation in Portuguese (max. 1000 words) reflecting the different curriculum evaluation criteria (point 9 of this notice);
- If the candidate is not a native speaker of Portuguese, a document proving that the candidate has the required language skills;
- Declaration of eligibility (attached);
- If applicable, a declaration of commitment to choose a dissertation topic related to the project topics and in consultation with the scientific supervisor;
- Other evidence of experience and knowledge that constitute conditions of preference.
11. 4. Candidates may also attach any other documents they deem relevant to the assessment of their merits.
11. 5. Failure to meet the application deadline, failure to submit the documents referred to in points a), b), d), e), f) and g) of paragraph 11. 3, or submission of these documents after the deadline will result in the application being rejected.
11. 6. The documents referred to in point 11. 3 should preferably be submitted in a
- editable format.
11. 7. The selection panel may, whenever it deems necessary, request candidates to submit additional documents relating to the facts referred to in the curriculum vitae submitted, setting a deadline for this purpose, under the following terms:
- The aforementioned documentation is not intended for the submission of elements not referenced in the curriculum vitae, nor for the addition of missing documents required in this public notice.
- All candidates are hereby informed that additional documentation has been requested.
12. False statements:
False statements made by applicants will be prosecuted under the law.
13. Procedure for publicising/notifying results:
13. 1. All notifications under this procedure will be made by email, via the APPLY platform.
13. 2. Notifications shall be made by email, in accordance with Articles 112(1)(c) and 113(5) of the Code of Administrative Procedure.
13. 3. Pursuant to the provisions of Article 121 et seq. of the Administrative Procedure Code, after being notified, candidates have 10 working days to respond in writing.
14. Reserve list:
Based on the final ranking list, a reserve list will be created, which may be used in cases of withdrawal and/or failure to submit documentation and/or expected termination. The faculty reserves the right to call the next candidate(s) on the list as necessary, as deemed appropriate and convenient by the faculty. This reserve list may be used for up to twelve (12) months from the date of approval of the final ranking list.
