CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE AWARD OF TWO (2) RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (BI), WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE CIVITAS PROJECT (NORTE2030-FEDER-02717100), CURRENTLY ONGOING AT THE CENTER FOR PSYCHOLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO (CPUP) IN THE FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATION SCIENCES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO
Applications are now open for two (2) research f for Master's holders in Psychology within the project “CIVITAS: Bridges between Citizenship and Science for Climate Adaptation in Communities in the Northern Region” (NORTE2030-FEDER-02717100), ongoing at the Center for Psychology at the University of Porto (CPUP), funded by the Northern Regional Program 2021-2027 [NORTE2030] of the Portugal 2030 Program.
The CIVITAS project (2025-2028) aims to bridge scientific and technological knowledge about climate change produced at the University and the communities where the implications of these changes are felt. The project involves generating knowledge about the challenges and risks resulting from climate change and ways to address and combat them, and sharing that knowledge with citizens in deliberative and
- creation spaces that produce recommendations for climate change mitigation and adaptation measures tailored to each specific context.
1. Scientific Area: Psychology
2. Number of places: Two (2)
3. Admission requirements
All individuals of legal age who meet the following requirements, as proven by documentation, may apply:
- Hold a Master's degree in Psychology or related fields (e. g. , environmental sciences, ecology, sustainability) with a grade of 16 in 20 or higher;
- Be enrolled in a doctoral program in Psychology or related fields, or be enrolled in a
- degree granting course offered as part of the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, a requirement to be proven at the time of hiring; - Immediate availability (to be mentioned in the motivation letter).
4. Preferred conditions, to be proven with documentation:
- Completion of a master's thesis in psychology or related areas on topics relevant to the project theme;
- Proven research experience;
- Proven experience in the collection and analysis of quantitative data;
- Proven experience in constructing instruments and implementing studies, preferably online;
- Proficient command of written English, proven by submitting documents written in English (e. g. , articles, dissertation) or certificates, and spoken English, which will be assessed in case of interview;
5. Work plan:
The activities to be carried out by the fellow are part of the project “CIVITAS: Bridges between Citizenship and Science for Climate Adaptation in Communities in the Northern Region” (NORTE2030-FEDER-02717100), ongoing at the Center for Psychology at the University of Porto (CPUP), funded by the Northern Regional Program 2021-2027 [NORTE2030] of the Portugal 2030 Program.
The fellow will be integrated into the project’s research team and will collaborate in all scientific activities and project management support tasks, namely:
- Preparation and review of current literature in the project area;
- Collaboration in the conceptualization of the studies to be developed;
- Translation/adaptation into Portuguese of scales relevant to the project;
- Adaptation of experimental tasks;
- Implementation of studies for online data collection, in the laboratory, or in schools or communities of interest;
- Data collection, maintaining a permanent record of the methodology used and data collected;
- Collaboration in data analysis and preparation of results reports;
- Contribution to the writing, preparation, and revision of articles to be submitted to international journals;
- Presentation of communications at scientific meetings and dissemination to the general public;
- Collaboration in the general activities of the research group whenever appropriate.
6. Applicable Legislation and Regulations:
The call for applications and the respective award of the fellowship are governed by the provisions of the University of Porto's Research Studentship Regulations - approved by Regulation no. 184/2021, published in Diário da República , 2. ª Série, n. 43, 03rd March, hereinafter referred to as the Regulation no. 43, of 03rd March; the legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions; the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA), approved by Decree-Law no. 4/2015, of 7th January; the Research Fellow Statute (EBI), approved by Law no. 40/2004, of 18th August, in the current wording published by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28th August and; other applicable rules.
7. Workplace:
The work will be carried out at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences at the University of Porto (FPCEUP), the Center for Psychology at the University of Porto, under the scientific supervision of Alessandra S. Souza, São Luís Castro, Tiago Ferreira, and Isabel Rocha Pinto, project coordinators and integrated researchers at CPUP.
8. Duration of the scholarship:
Each fellowship will last for 12 months, with an expected start data of January 1, 2026, on an exclusive dedication basis, possibly renewable after a positive evaluation, up to the end of the work plan execution period or funding. Under no circumstances may it exceed four years when awarded to a Ph
D student, or one year when awarded to a degree holder enrolled in
- degree granting course, under the terms of paragraph 3 of article 10 of the University of Porto Research Grant Regulations.
9. Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
9. 1. The scholarship amounts correspond to €1, 309. 64, as per Annex I of the Regulations, updated by Rector's Order No. GR 11/02/2025, of February 19, which changes the amount of research scholarships at the University of Porto for the current year.
9. 2. Payment will be made monthly by bank transfer by FPCEUP. In addition to this allowance, the fellow will be covered by personal accident insurance.
9. 3. The fellow may join the Voluntary Social Security (for contracts of six months or more), with optional reimbursement corresponding to the 1st contribution bracket.
10. Evaluation methods:
10. 1. The selection methods are as follows: curriculum assessment (CA) with a weighting of 70% supplemented by an interview (INT) with a weighting of 30%, if the Jury considers that the CA does not sufficiently clarify the candidates real competences or distinguish the most suitable candidate for the position and tasks. If an interview is held, it will be conducted with the top three (3) candidates with the highest curriculum assessment.
10. 2. Each member of the Jury scores the selection methods on a scale of 0 to 100 points.
10. 3. The Curriculum Assessment will take into account the following evaluation factors and weightings:
- Final grade of the Master's degree program and completion of a Master's thesis on topics relevant to the project (25%);
- Experience in quantitative data collection and analysis methods, preferably in the field covered by the call (25%);
- Participation in projects, especially in the field covered by the call , and in dissemination/ publication activities (25%);
- Motivation letter demonstrating the suitability of the curriculum vitae to the project and proficient command of English (additionally evidenced by submitted documentation) (25%);
10. 4. In the interview, if held, the following will be assessed:
- Verbal expression and fluency in Portuguese and English (50%);
- Specific knowledge for carrying out the work plan (50%).
10. 5. Candidates may request the jury president’s authorisation for the interview to be conducted by videoconference, justifying the reasons.
10. 6. Failure to attend the interview stage is considered withdrawal from the call, and the candidate will be excluded.
10. 7. The final classification (FC) will be calculated as: FC = (0. 7 × CA) + (0. 3 × INT). If no interview is held, FC = CA.
10. 8. This call aims exclusively to fill the two advertised positions. Should no candidate demonstrate the required profile for the work plan described above, the jury reserves the right not to award one or both positions.

12. 3. The application must be accompanied by documents proving that the conditions set out in this Notice are met, namely:
- Motivation letter (in English, max. 800 words), mentioning availability, justifying the application, and motivation for the work plan;
- Curriculum Vitae, includind full name and address, contact details, and academic and professional background. The Curriculum Vitae must be organized in accordance with the criteria mentioned in point 10. 3;
- Copy of the Qualification Certificate(s), indicating the final grade and the grade of the master's thesis;
- Recognition of foreign degree– (if appplicable, to be presented by the time of hiring, to prove compliance with the minimum admission requirement indicated in point 3(a) of this notice;
- Proof of the required experience, including copies of articles or texts written in academic English;
- Declaration of eligibility (attached)
12. 4. Failure to meet the application deadline or to submit the mandatory documents listed in points a) , b), c), e) and f)of paragraph 12. 3, or submission of these documents after the deadline, will result in exclusion.

12. 6. The Jury may request additional supporting documents if deemed necessary, setting a deadline for this purpose, under the following terms:
- Supporting documents are not intended to bring in elements not mentioned in the curriculum vitae, nor to add missing documents required in this call;
- All candidates shall be informed that additional documentation has been requested.
False statements made by candidates will be punished in accordance with the law.
14. Notification of results:
14. 1. All notifications under this procedure shall be made by email, through the APPLY platform.
14. 2. Notifications shall be made by email, in accordance with Articles 112(1)(c) and 113(5) of the CPA.
14. 3. Pursuant to the provisions of Article 121 et seq. of the CPA, after being notified, candidates have 10 working days to respond in writing.
15. Reserve list:
A reserve list will be created based on the final ranking, which may be used in case of withdrawal of the
- ranked candidates, for a maximum period of 12 months from the approval of the final ranking. The Faculty's highest authority reserves the right to call the next applicant, and so on, until the vacancy is filled.
