Role Overview
The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining Go services that run on Linux, contributing to Canonical’s core offerings such as Juju, Livepatch, LXD, MAAS, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, and more.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement well‑tested, documented software in Go.
- Debug and fix issues encountered by users.
- Participate in code and architectural reviews.
- Collaborate with the community and colleagues on technical specifications.
- Seek improvements to engineering processes and operations.
- Deploy and operate services in some cases.
- Contribute to product success through technical advocacy.
Qualifications
- Exceptional academic track record.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
- Drive to exceed expectations and deliver on schedule.
- Strong organization, self‑start, and professional communication.
- Experience designing and writing high‑quality Golang software on Linux.
- Passion for Linux at the system level.
- For senior roles: experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs.
- Professional written and spoken English; English proficiency.
- Experience with Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Self‑motivation and result‑orientation.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks each.
Nice‑to‑have
- Experience developing for Ubuntu Linux.
- Experience with Juju, LXD, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro.
- Performance engineering and security experience.
