ACCA Careers invites applications for the Head of Finance role in Portugal.
Responsibilities
- Structural and strengthening of the finance function ensuring accounting reflects true economic reality, legal, tax, and labour risks are identified and mitigated, and alignment with international group standards.
- Support an international professional services group operating across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
- Ensure financial accuracy, transparency, robust control, safeguarding reputation and building financial foundations for sustainable growth.
- Finance & Accounting – Ensure
- quality, accurate, and reliable accounting across all entities; oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes; guarantee consistency and financial control across multiple entities; deliver clear financial reporting in line with group requirements; lead implementation of Group ERP (Net
Suite); prepare annual consolidated financial statements. - Legal, Tax & Compliance – Identify, manage, and mitigate legal, tax, and labour risks; ensure compliance with Portuguese fiscal and regulatory obligations; act as a reference point for compliance, ethics, governance, and internal policies; liaise with auditors, external advisors, and regulatory authorities.
- Control & Reporting – Strengthen and implement internal control frameworks and cash management; ensure financial information accurately reflects business performance; implement and comply with group reporting standards; provide financial analysis and local insights to support the International CFO.
- Business Mindset – Go beyond accounting and reporting; maintain a strong business and results orientation; support leadership with profitability and performance analysis; act as a trusted partner to the Managing Partner and local leadership team; contribute to strategic decision‑making with sound judgement.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Management.
- Certified Accountant (OCC).
- Strong accounting expertise; proven experience managing multiple legal entities and cross‑border operations.
- Solid knowledge of Portuguese accounting and tax standards; experience in M&A, post‑acquisition integration, or restructuring is highly valued.
- Very good level of English and Portuguese; Spanish is a plus.
- High integrity, accountability, attention to detail; discipline, structure, and clarity in complex environments.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; confident communicator with international stakeholders.
- Hands‑on, business‑oriented mindset, not overly operational.
