Head Of Pastoral
Redbridge International School is seeking a dedicated Head of Pastoral to lead student
- being and personal development across our secondary section.
This is a key leadership role, with the responsibility for the overall design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the school’s pastoral care policies and programs. The role ensures a strong culture of
- being, safeguarding, and personal development while working closely with the health team, including the school psychologist, school nurse, teachers, and administration.
This role involves working with students at an individual, group, and
- school level, as well as liaising with parents to support student
- being. The [title] will also oversee the Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) programme, ensuring its quality and effectiveness through collaboration with teachers, tutors, and the health team.

Key responsibilities
Pastoral Leadership & Student Well-being
Develop, implement, and regularly review the school’s pastoral policies and procedures.
Lead and coordinate the school’s approach to student
- being and safeguarding, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulations.
Work closely with the health/well-being team (psychologist, school nurse, teachers, administration) to support student
- being.
Offer direct support to students, addressing individual and group
- being concerns through interventions, mentoring, and guidance.
Serve as a point of contact for students requiring pastoral support and ensure appropriate referral pathways for additional help.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
Monitor and respond to safeguarding concerns, ensuring prompt action and appropriate documentation in line with safeguarding policies.
Provide guidance to staff on safeguarding procedures and promote a culture of awareness and vigilance.
Personal, Social & Emotional (PSE) Program Development
Design, implement, and oversee the PSED curriculum, incorporating current and developing resources to ensure its relevance and impact.
Support teachers/tutors in delivering
- quality PSED sessions, providing training, resources, and ongoing guidance.
Evaluate and refine the PSE program regularly based on student needs and educational developments.
Parental Engagement & Communication
Act as a key contact for pastoral concerns raised by parents, offering support and guidance.
Facilitate meetings with parents to discuss student
- being, behaviour, or safeguarding concerns.
Organise and contribute to
- related parent workshops, information sessions, and
- wide
- being initiatives.
Behaviour, Inclusion & Student Support
Lead a proactive approach to student behaviour management, focusing on early intervention, positive reinforcement, and restorative practices.
Promote a positive school culture by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
Develop and implement strategies to support students who may be struggling with engagement, attendance, or personal challenges, working closely with staff to ensure a coordinated response.
Collaborate with teaching staff to embed pastoral support within daily school routines and classroom practices, ensuring student
- being is a shared priority.
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach up to 50% of a full timetable in a subject(s) relevant to the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
Foster strong relationships with students through effective classroom teaching and learning practices.
Specifications
Qualified teacher status (QTS or equivalent).
Proven experience in pastoral leadership, student
- being, or safeguarding roles.
Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.
Experience working with students on
- being, behaviour, and personal development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
