Hotel Manager
Canto de Luz is a boutique luxury Maison (hotel) located in the heart of Porto, Portugal, and part of the Espais Roca hotel group family which also has properties in Malta, UK, Spain and Lisbon.
With a current offering of 12 luxurious suites and villas, the hotel is poised for growth, expanding to 30 rooms over the next 18‑24 months. The hotel concept is “Chez Vous a Porto”, where guests feel as if they are staying with friends at a Luxury Maison, a far cry from the soulless chain hotels of yesteryear.
The hotel Manager oversees the day‑to‑day operations, leading from the front, ensuring that the property provides exceptional service and a memorable experience for its guests.
This is a hands‑on role that will require the General Manager to manage all aspects of the hotel, including staff, operations, guest satisfaction, and the successful scaling of the property as it grows.
Key Responsibilities Operations ManagementOversee the day‑to‑day operations of the hotel, ensuring the highest standards of service, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.
Manage all departments, including reception, housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage, and guest services.
Coordinate and supervise the training, development, and performance management of hotel staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Monitor inventory levels and manage hotel supplies and equipment.
Responsible for the Vacation Rental properties in Lisbon that are managed by the Portuguese business.
Guest RelationsEnsure exceptional guest service, leading from the front and being highly visible and interactive with guests, responding to any inquiries, feedback, or concerns promptly and professionally.
Create personalized experiences for guests to enhance their stay, establishing a reputation for high‑end hospitality.
Marketing & SalesCollaborate with the sales team to develop and maintain relationships with online travel platform partners, travel agents, event planners, and corporate clients.
Expansion & GrowthLead the operational aspects of the hotel’s expansion from 12 to 30 rooms, ensuring that the transition is seamless and that guest experience and quality standards are maintained during the growth process.
Manage the hiring, training, and integration of new staff to accommodate the growing hotel.
Oversee the development and implementation of new systems and processes to support the increased capacity while maintaining a boutique atmosphere.
Compliance & Health & SafetyEnsure that the hotel complies with all local regulations, health and safety standards, and industry best practices.
Regularly inspect the property to ensure that it meets all safety, cleanliness, and operational standards.
Reporting & AnalysisProvide monthly reports to the group management team on hotel performance, guest feedback, and operational progress.
Analyse market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
QualificationsProven experience as a General Manager or in a senior management role within the luxury boutique hotel industry.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of managing and motivating teams.
Financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and managing profit and loss statements.
Knowledge of hotel operations, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and food and beverage operations.
Exceptional communication and problem‑solving skills.
Experience with expanding a property or managing growth is highly desirable.
Proficiency in hotel management software including revenue management tools and PMS.
Fluency in English, Spanish and Portuguese is required, but other languages are a plus including French and German.
