Human Resources Director

About the role

HR Director at The Standard, Lisbon will partner with our General Manager, Senior Executive team and Corporate HR teams to oversee the HR function of the new property during pre‑opening. The role involves ensuring recruitment is on schedule, budgets are managed, HR systems and procedures are in place, and the property successfully launches.

As part of a wider HR team, you will be supported by an HR Coordinator and the HR Director, Lifestyle EAME to provide generalist HR and L&D services to over 180 employees once the hotel is operational.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing partner‑based support, coaching and guidance across a range of HR areas to department managers.

• Deliver end‑to‑end pre‑opening recruitment: develop attraction strategies, conduct senior position interviews, negotiate contracts and onboard staff.

• Lead onboarding and pre‑opening orientation of all new employees.

• Manage payroll administration, ensuring accurate monthly processing.

• Advise line managers on employee relations issues and maintain legal integrity.

• Oversee various HR and Recruitment projects across the hotel and collaborate with global HR teams.

• Champion long‑term employee engagement and development.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years experience as an HR Director, Manager or Head of HR in a similar Lifestyle Hotel or large 4‑ or 5‑star Hotel in Lisbon or Portugal.
• Strong project management skills, including system implementation and setting up of HR functions.
• Pre‑opening hotel experience is an advantage.
• Proficient in Portuguese payroll requirements, taxation, social security, benefits and insurance.
• Experience creating staffing and payroll budgets.
• Broad experience across HR and L&D disciplines.
• Integrity, professionalism and positivity in all employee interactions.
• Relevant HR qualifications at an equivalent of a bachelor’s degree.
• Exceptional administration and IT skills.
• Fluency in Portuguese and English (English essential).
• Flexibility to adapt working hours during the pre‑opening period.
