As we continue to grow, we are now looking for a dynamic and skilled Lead Engineer with product and technology expertise and experience in project delivery to help lead our various technology and content digitization efforts. As a Lead Engineer, you will be a
- on technical leader responsible for building, reviewing, and maintaining the core systems of the JUMP Math platform. You will ensure that both our application and AI engine are robust, scalable, and maintainable. You will lead and collaborate closely with the engineering team, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and ensuring the team is aligned and effective. You will also work closely with Product and Design to drive the platform forward.
This is a
- time role (37. 5 hours/week).
Location of Work: This candidate for this role must be residing in Portugal and is intended to be remote.
Key Accountabilities:
Own and deliver
- quality code across the full stack (frontend, backend, and AI integration)
Lead and mentor a development team, fostering a collaborative and
- performance environment
Conduct code reviews and maintain coding standards to ensure maintainability and reliability
Manage Dev
Ops tasks including deployment pipelines, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, and scaling
Design and implement APIs, and integrate with
- party services
Ensure security, performance, and reliability of the platform in production environments
Troubleshoot and resolve critical technical issues across the stack and optimize code
Participate in architecture decisions and recommend improvements to the platform design
Collaborate with the Machine Learning team to integrate AI question generation and scaffolding into the platform
Contribute to defining accessibility standards and compliance (data protection, privacy, and security in educational environments)
Coordinate with distributed teams across different time zones, ensuring clear and efficient communication
Skills:
Skilled in code review, system architecture, and software best practices
Proficiency in backend languages and frontend frameworks
Excellent
- solving, communication, leadership and collaboration skills
High level of Spanish and English
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Familiarity with Generative AI (Chat GPT, Prompting, APIs, Fine-tuning) and Machine Learning algorithms (Python)

Education and Experience (minimums):
5+ years of software engineering experience with
- stack development
Strong experience in Dev
Ops / cloud infrastructure (AWS, CI/CD pipelines)
Experience in projects using PHP (Laravel), React. JS, Next. JS
Knowledge of data security and regulatory compliance (GDPR, FERPA, or other relevant frameworks)
Experience with databases (eg. My
SQL, Maria
DB, Supabase, Mongo
DB), caching, and API design
Experience integrating AI/ML models into production applications
Experience leading distributed or remote teams
Basic knowledge of web accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive UX practices
