The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Lead Observability Engineer to lead the discovery, implementation, and optimisation of a client's Observability Strategy, with a primary focus on New Relic. This role will be consultative; you will provide
-
- end visibility across their digital ecosystem to enable
- driven
- making. You will work closely with stakeholders and drive
- party developers to implement changes according to a road map you develop. Additionally, this role will help shape the future of observability at VML by standardising processes and scaling efforts.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assessing, documenting, and designing the current New Relic implementation
- Performing gap analysis and creating a roadmap for improvements using client scorecards
- Driving positive change as the observability champion within the client organization
- Creating and maintaining observability standards and best practices
- Designing and implementing monitoring solutions for complex distributed systems
- Building dashboards and alerts for various stakeholders
- Conducting training sessions and creating documentation for internal teams
- Establishing complete visibility of digital operations
- Reducing incident response times
- Enabling proactive problem identification
- Improving system reliability and performance
- Building internal capabilities within our teams
What We Want From You
- Deep expertise in New Relic platform configuration and optimisation
- Understanding of observability principles (metrics, events, logs, traces)
- Experience with APM tools and distributed tracing, including implementation
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and their relation to observability
- Familiarity with modern web technologies
- Proficiency in log and metric aggregation and analysis
- Experience with infrastructure as code and automation
- Knowledge of programming languages and debugging techniques
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to
- technical audiences - Experience in training and mentoring teams
- Cross-cultural communication experience
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with global retail/e-commerce clients
- Understanding of
- commerce KPIs and business metrics - Previous consulting experience
- Ability to work across different time zones
- Experience creating technical documentation
- Track record of successful observability implementations
This role requires a combination of technical expertise and business acumen, with the ability to drive adoption across a global organization while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
