We’re looking for a UX Researcher for a maternity cover based either in Berlin (Germany) or Lisbon (Portugal) to join our growing UX Research community.
You’ll be part of the global UXD practice at Springer Nature and work with colleagues around the world.
We currently work on a hybrid model.

About You
You are a Lead User Experience Researcher with multiple years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research. You have experience in researching different stages of product development and are always willing to try new approaches to share and apply your findings.
You have experience coaching less experienced researchers and designers, helping them grow their confidence and skills.
You have successfully worked with teams to design research strategies that provide insights on key areas and have experience feeding actionable insights into multiple product teams from foundational research.
Why We Need You
The Springer Nature digital department works in a domain model, grouping products and projects related to similar user and business needs (e. g. , ‘Attract to Publish’, ‘Content Acquisition’).
You will support the Attract to Publish program, helping scientists find and use scientific content effectively.
You will collaborate with product teams, designers, business analysts, product owners, developers, and QAs to deliver outstanding user experiences. You will work with both teams and
- wide roles, supporting and leading research activities.
You will help shape the UX research strategy for Attract to Publish and mentor less experienced researchers and designers.
You’ll be supported by the Research Community daily.
What You’ll Be Doing
Within 3 months
- Review past research to understand our users, behaviors, and needs.
- Gain an understanding of publishing trends and markets, including STM trends.
- Assess platform performance and identify knowledge gaps.
- Build relationships with stakeholders to understand goals and priorities.
- Highlight research gaps and develop a unified view of user goals.
- Establish relationships with teams in the Attract to Publish domain.
- Support the UX Research Team in sharing best practices.
6 – 12 months
- Prioritize research initiatives based on existing and ongoing research, market data, analytics, and insights.
- Design and socialize a comprehensive research strategy.
- Plan and conduct research activities.
- Collaborate closely with UXers to scope, plan, and execute research projects.
- Use research outcomes to inform roadmaps, strategies, and OKRs.
- Encourage proactive discovery of user needs and opportunities.
Daily Life
You need to be autonomous and proactive, organizing and prioritizing research tasks.
- Work with UX Designers and product teams to translate questions into research activities.
- Collaborate with Market Intelligence and Analytics teams.
- Improve processes, tools, and methods for research.
- Recruit, organize, plan, and run workshops and studies.
- Apply appropriate research methods based on schedules and deadlines.
- Learn new techniques and evaluative methods.
- Motivate and involve team members in research activities.
- Share findings within teams and communities.
- Keep remote colleagues informed and involved.
- Work closely with the Research Manager to shape future research directions.
