Machine Learning Engineering Manager – Viseu, Portugal

We are looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineering Manager to lead the ML knowledge team focused on generative AI and information‑retrieval systems.
As an ML Engineering Manager you will oversee a functional team responsible for the‑to‑end delivery of machine‑learning‑powered features, ensuring models are deployed reliably, at scale, with measurable quality and suitable cost. You will partner with Engineering, Product, Architecture and Tech Leads to align the team’s roadmap with company strategy and ship architecturally sound software on a regular cadence.
- Lead a team of experienced Machine Learning Engineers and Scientists, offering direction and assistance throughout the ML project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with existing ML/AI leadership to continually improve software delivery and service reliability.
- Lead the recruitment of new team members and facilitate a rapid, engaging interview process.
- Hold quality 1:1s with team members and create a diverse and inclusive environment where people can thrive.
What you bring to the role
- Experience managing people across one or more teams, ideally with large, distributed Internet‑facing systems.
- Proven expertise in delivering machine‑learning projects to production.
- Expertise in NLP or Information Retrieval is a big plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong prioritization skills, focusing on high‑impact work.
- Dedication to continual development.
- Collaborative, upbeat work ethic with ownership and fun.

Hybrid working
Roles will attend a local office part of the week. Specific office schedule determined by hiring manager. Remote work is allowed for part of the week.
