Work Plan
Beekeeping in conservation areas has a long‑standing tradition in Mozambique. In recent years, there has been a massification of this activity, with the use of semi‑mobile hives, marking a transition from traditional to modern beekeeping practices, increasingly oriented towards income generation. However, success remains limited, largely due to the absence of a traceability system that ensures product authenticity and enables effective quality control of honey.
Within this context, the Pro
MEL Project proposes the development of a conceptual model to analyse the diversification of rural activities related to honey production and valorisation. The aim is to enhance the economic resources of rural communities while promoting the sustainable management of biodiversity. The Pro
MEL Project seeks to contribute to socio‑economic development, biodiversity conservation, and the strengthening of food security through the valorisation of beekeeping in conservation areas across Mozambique.
- Integration of information on ecological indicators relevant to ecosystem conservation assessment with data on the quantity and quality of honey.
- Elaboration of a conceptual framework and implementation protocols for data collection aimed at exploratory activities and the characterization of beekeeping practices.
- Collaboration in the elaboration of a practical guide on sustainable beekeeping through the integrative evaluation of management models.
- Organisation of dissemination events through seminars and workshops.
