Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement engaging Portuguese language lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and proficiency levels.
- Deliver
- quality instruction aligned with school curriculum standards. - Differentiated lessons support individual student needs and ensure academic success.
- Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback.
- Foster a dynamic and interactive classroom environment that promotes confidence and active participation.
- Inspire curiosity and a passion for Portuguese language and Lusophone culture.
- Support students in developing linguistic competence, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding.
- Provide detailed progress reports and maintain accurate student records.
- Encourage collaboration, respect, and inclusivity in the classroom.
- Organize or participate in school cultural events, such as language weeks and international days.
- Promote engagement in extracurricular activities related to Portuguese and Lusophone culture.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and community initiatives.
- Create an inclusive, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
- Promote student well‑being and address challenges with empathy and professionalism.
- Follow all school safeguarding and health policies.
- Work closely with the Head of Portuguese and the Languages Department on curriculum planning and development.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and parent‑teacher conferences as required.
- Stay current with best practices in language pedagogy, technology integration, and assessment methods.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Portuguese Language and Literature or a related field.
- Proven experience teaching Portuguese as a first or additional language (Middle or High School level).
- Strong understanding of modern language teaching methodologies (e. g. , communicative and
- based approaches). - Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective formative and summative assessments.
- Proficiency in the use of educational technology and digital learning platforms.
- Excellent lesson planning, curriculum design, and organizational skills.
- Fluency in Portuguese and proficiency in English (spoken and written).
