A Post-doctoral Research Fellowship (BIPD) (Reference REQUIMTE 2025-72) at Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde – Tecnologias e Processos Limpos – UID/50006/2025, with the financial support of the FCT/ MCTES through national funds, is available at REQUIMTE.

Admission requirements:

The candidates must hold a Ph
D in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or similar scientific areas, obtained in the previous three years to the date of submission of the application, and have proven experience in food science, toxicology and analytical chemistry, namely, analysis of contaminants using chromatographic methods, experience in in vitro and in vivo studies, molecular biology and biochemical assays.

The host institution where the research work was developed that led to the attribution of the candidate's doctoral degree must be different from Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde – Tecnologias e Processos Limpos.

In case the doctorate degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree‑Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August, and all formalities established therein must be complied until the signature of the contract.

Workplan: Biomonitoring of mycotoxins in saliva and blood samples and association with dietary exposure

1. Develop and validate saliva and blood collection protocols (DBS) for the quantification of foodborne mycotoxins.
2. Optimise the method for extracting and purifying mycotoxins using the Qu
   ECh
   ERS protocol.
3. Quantify mycotoxins in human biological samples by LC‑MS/MS.
4. Statistical analysis of results.
5. Conduct in vitro assays to simulate the transfer of mycotoxins from blood to saliva.
6. Evaluate the relationship between dietary exposure and mycotoxin levels in saliva and blood, discussing the feasibility of saliva as a biomonitoring matrix.

Work Place: The work will be conducted at FFUP, under the supervision of Prof Isabel Ferreira.

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of X months, potentially renewable for additional periods of 6 months, up to 36 months, expected to start on 1st January 2026.

Monthly stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1. 801 according to the stipends established by FCT, I. P. in Portugal (https://www.fct. pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025. p… ). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

Selection criteria:

The selection methods to be used are as follows:

• Integrated assessment of the candidate's academic record, based on an overview of their scientific merit:
• I. Letter of motivation – 5%
• II. Overall scientific consistency of the CV – 15%
• III. Diversity and quality of scientific indicators in the specific areas of the announcement – 20%
• Relevant and proven experience in CV:
• I. Experience with cell line cultures – 10%.
• III. Molecular biology and biochemical assays – 10%.
• IV. Experience in liquid and gas chromatography using different detectors (FLD, DAD, MS) and complex matrix extraction methods – 15%.
• V. Experience in statistical analysis – 5%.
• Only candidates who obtain a score equal to or greater than 50% in the above parameters will be eligible.
• In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 10%.
• The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results

The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
