Admission requirements:

The candidates must hold a Ph
D in Materials Engineering, Chemistry or similar scientific areas, obtained in the previous three years to the date of submission of the application, and have proven experience in the synthesis and characterization of
- organic frameworks, carbon materials, mixed matrix membranes, as well as in gas adsorption methods and catalytic processes.

The host institution where the research work was developed that led to the attribution of the candidate's doctoral degree must be different from Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde - Tecnologias e Processos Limpos.

In case the doctorate degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August, and all formalities established therein must be complied until the signature of the contract.

Workplan:

• Prepare and develop metal‑organic frameworks, carbon materials obtained from waste, and mixed‑matrix membranes;
• Characterize the various materials and membranes using solid‑state structural analysis methods;
• Evaluate the gas adsorption capacity (particularly CO₂) and the catalytic performance in CO₂ valorisation reactions of the materials and membranes;
• Present the work developed at national/international conferences, and support the Principal Investigator in student training, preparation of progress reports, and publications.

Applicable Legislation: The grant is awarded under the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of August 18th, and updated by Law decree 123/2019, of August 28th, and the Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I. Work Place: The work will be carried out at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, under the supervision of Luís Manuel Cunha Silva (Researcher at LAQV / REQUIMTE).

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 6 months, expected to start on 1st January 2026. The scholarship contract may be renewed for equal periods up to a maximum duration of 36 months.

Monthly stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1. 851 according to the stipends established by FCT, I. P. in Portugal (https://www.fct. pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025. p…). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

Selection criteria: The selection methods will be:

• 1) Integrated assessment of the candidate’s academic trajectory, based on an overall view of their scientific merit:
  • overall scientific coherence of the CV (15%)
  • diversity and quality of scientific indicators (publications) in the specific areas of the announcement (20%)
  • participation in research projects and supervision of students (10%)
• 2) Relevant and proven CV experience in:
  • synthesis and development of metal‑organic frameworks (10%)
  • preparation of carbon materials from waste (10%)
  • preparation of mixed‑matrix membranes (10%)
  • characterization using solid‑state structural analysis methods (5%)
  • studies of gas adsorption and heterogeneous catalytic processes (15%)

The jury will interview candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that of the best‑positioned candidate. In this situation, the value of the interview is 30%. The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.
