Job Summary
The Principal Software Engineer plays a critical leadership role in shaping the technology landscape of Allia Health Group. Reporting directly to the CTO, this position drives architectural decisions, leads complex engineering initiatives across multiple products, and ensures the scalability, security, and resilience of our platforms. The role combines deep technical expertise with mentorship, guiding senior engineers and setting best practices that define engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities

- wide impact - Define and drive software architecture and design patterns across the organization
- Ensure systems are secure, scalable, and performant across all layers of the stack
- Build, optimize, and oversee CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration in production
- Mentor senior engineers and set technical standards that elevate engineering practices
- Collaborate with the CTO and product leadership to align technical decisions with strategic business priorities
- Provide

Required Qualifications
- Ideal Degree(s):
BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Experience:
7–10 years in similar roles, with proven expertise in
- grade systems
- Must-Have:
- Expert in multiple programming languages and frameworks (e. G. , Java, Kotlin, Python, or equivalent)
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and
- native architectures - Proficiency with relational and
- relational databases (e. G. , Postgre
SQL, Elasticsearch, Mongo
DB) - Strong background in Dev
Ops and Infrastructure-as-Code (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD with Git
Hub/Google Cloud) - Proven ability to design and operate secure, resilient, and scalable systems in production
- Strong experience in software development best practices (OOP, patterns, automated testing, code reviews)

- adjacent tools. Candidates with AWS experience are welcome but Google Cloud is preferred.

- Working in Madeira in a shared office space, remote in Portugal, or remote in a Portuguese time

- Flexibility to shift portions of the day to increase time zone overlap with US CST time zone
