Product Development Engineer - Automotive Industry
Responsibilities
- Full understanding and working knowledge of the disciplines required to manage and launch a program from concept to delivery.
- Create and manipulate math models so that revisions and/or redesigns can be performed.
- Capable of producing detail or assembly drawings as required.
- Coordinate program design with Program Managers, including
- site visits to customers’ manufacturing facilities when necessary. - Interpret FEM and rheological study reports.
- Assure Bill of Material and all detail and assembly drawings are of a level to support each build phase.
- Create, review and update Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis through life of program with Program Launch Team.
- Ensure all Engineering Changes are processed and implemented in a timely manner.
- Complete Advanced Product Quality Planning elements for design and engineering.
- Communicate status of engineering, tooling and gauging changes to the launch team.
- Implement engineering and manufacturing systems and assist in creating new systems that will reduce product lead time to customers.
- Lead engineering meetings with customer or internally when Program Manager is absent.
- Provide written and oral presentations to upper management on program status when the Program Manager is absent.
- Lead VA/VE process with a
- functional team.
Skills / Competencies
- Solid understanding of timeline management
- Experience in use of design software
- Knowledge of design methodologies (top-down and
- up design) and basic layout rules of machine elements - Knowledge of manufacturing processes including but not limited to injection molding (plastic), die casting, extrusion process for a variety of materials, roll forming and stampings
- Familiar with GD&T
- Knowledge of advanced product quality planning (AIAG Version)
- Applications software knowledge (spreadsheet and database)
- Understanding of TS 16949 requirements
- Advanced knowledge of English and Portuguese languages required (speaking and writing)
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the Automotive Industry
- Manage launch process at the OEM level
- Working knowledge of DFMEA’s and DVP’s
- Understanding of APQP
- Working knowledge of VA/VE process
