Purpose
As a Project Engineer at Philip Morris International, you will lead and support the execution of engineering projects within the manufacturing environment, focusing on initiative management pillar SWP´s. You will drive improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency while ensuring compliance with PMI standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute capital and process improvement projects from concept through implementation, aligning with our Integrated Operating System and pillars.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify and implement technical solutions supporting OPEN+ goals.
- Support development of technical standards and documentation (URS, FAT/SAT, SOPs).
- Ensure project timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met using PMI’s project management methodologies.
- Facilitate loss analysis and root cause investigations to identify improvement opportunities.
- Act as a technical coach for line teams and pillar members, promoting capability building and knowledge transfer.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality regulations during project execution.
- Participate in OPEN+ Phase assessments and audits, contributing to the site’s journey toward OPEN+ maturity.
- Lead design, planning, and execution of engineering projects aligned with OPEN+ Std´s.
- Drive equipment and process standardization across production lines to enhance reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with OPEN+ Pillar Leaders to integrate engineering solutions that support Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Planned Maintenance (PM) strategies.
- Conduct technical feasibility studies and cost‑benefit analyses for proposed improvements.
- Ensure effective change management during project implementation, minimizing disruption to production.
- Monitor and report on project KPIs, including safety, quality, cost, and delivery metrics.
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to ensure timely and compliant project execution.
- Lead risk assessments and mitigation planning for engineering activities.
- Support the digital transformation of manufacturing processes, including the integration of Industry 4. 0 technologies.
- Participate in Gemba walks and daily management systems to identify and act on improvement opportunities.
- Consider sustainability and energy efficiency in all engineering solutions.
- Contribute to the site’s OPEN+ Phase roadmap, helping to achieve vertical and horizontal deployment targets.
- Act as a liaison between global engineering teams and local operations, ensuring alignment with PMI’s global standards and strategies.
Who Are We Looking For
- Mandatory Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related).
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial project engineering role.
- Experience with OPEN+ or similar continuous improvement systems (e. g. , TPM, Lean, Six Sigma), is a plus.
- Strong project management and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in Auto
CAD, MS Project, and engineering tools is a plus. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Fluent in English is mandatory and Portuguese is a plus.
- Prior experience in the tobacco, FMCG, or pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
- Familiarity with PMI’s smoke‑free product technologies and manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or Project Management (PMP/Prince2) is a plus.
- EU work permit to work in Portugal.
