RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS FOR ADMISSION OF ONE SENIOR TECHNICIAN
A recruitment and selection process is open to hire one Senior Technician within the framework of the project “ UNFOLD: In the shadow of violence: a
- course approach to unfold the scars on the body and mind over childhood and adolescence (Ref: 2022. 06837. PTDC), exclusively funded by national funds through Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

Under the terms set forth in the Labour Code, approved by Law No. 7/2009 of 12 February, it is hereby announced that a recruitment and selection process has been opened for the recruitment of a Senior Technician under an individual employment contract under private law, for an indefinite term, during the term of the aforementioned project, for the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto.
The remuneration will be framed within the salary level corresponding to the first position in the professional category of Senior Technician in the Single Salary Table, corresponding to salary level 16, plus the meal allowance.
2. Admission requirements
- Master's degree in Public Health.
If the degree has been obtained in a higher education institution outside Portugal, it needs to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution as stated in article 25 of Decreto-Lei n. º 66/2018, of August 16, that approves the legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions and point e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decreto-Lei n. º 60/2018, de August 3rd, with the requirement that any formal procedures established there are completed at the moment of hiring.
3. Preferred conditions
- a) Final classification of Master’s degree of 16 or greater;
- b) Previous research experience, namely in projects in the field of Child Health;
- c) Previous experience in the analysis of qualitative and longitudinal quantitative data;
- d) Experience in writing scientific reports, articles and other documents for disseminating results;
- e) Fluency in English and Portuguese, written and spoken.
4. Work plan
The position holder will be integrated into the project team that aims to understand the biological mechanisms through which experiences of violence are embodied across the life course, and how they contribute to the production of social inequalities in health, using data from the Portuguese birth cohort — Generation XXI. The project is focused on the health and development of people born very preterm. The tasks to be performed include:
- a) Production of original work suitable for publication as full‑text papers in international journals;
- b) Contributing to the dissemination of project results to both the scientific community and the general public;
- c) Supporting the writing of scientific reports.
5. Place of work and Supervision
The work will be conducted at the Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP), under the supervision of Doctor Sílvia Fraga.
6. Remuneration and Contract Duration
The normal weekly working period is forty hours per week, with a monthly base salary of €1. 442, 57, plus a daily meal allowance (€6. 00) holiday and Christmas bonuses. The contract is expected to last 6 months.
7. Selection methods
Selection will be based on curriculum evaluation (CE) and, if deemed necessary by the jury, a selection interview (SI) with the top 3 candidates whose score in the curriculum evaluation is equal to or greater than ten points. The final score will be calculated using the following formula: 0, 6 × CE (curricular evaluation) + 0, 4 × I (interview), on a scale of 0‑20 points. If no interview is conducted, the final score will be the same as the CE score. If none of the candidates demonstrates having the profile indicated for carrying out the work plan, the Selection Committee reserves the right not to allocate the vacancy in the competition.
The criteria for curriculum evaluation are (0 to 20 points):
- Master’s final rank (0 to 5 points);
- Previous experience in research projects, namely in projects in the field of Child Health (0 to 5 points);
- Previous experience in the analysis of qualitative and longitudinal quantitative data (0 to 5 points);
- Experience in writing scientific reports, articles and other documents for disseminating results, considering the respective quality and relevance to the recruitment area (0 to 3 points);
- English and Portuguese, written and spoken (0 to 2 points) domain.
The criteria for the selection interview, if conducted, will be (0 to 20 points):
- Professional knowledge and skills to implement the work plan (0 to 6 points);
- Motivation to carry out the research project (0 to 5 points);
- Communication skills (0 to 5 points);
- Professional attitude (0 to 4 points).
8. Formalization of applications
Applications must be formalized via email by December 18, 2025, to the address candidaturas@ispup. up. pt , with the refª “Técnico Superior – UNFOLD” in the subject, accompanied by the following documents, of mandatory presentation:
- b) Qualification certificate with the final classification obtained and the respective academic degree recognition by a Portuguese higher education institution (if applicable).
- c) Letter of motivation for the position in question, as well as a reference to the availability to start functions;
- d) Any documents that candidates consider to be relevant to the assessment of their merits (optional).
Failure to present the documents identified above in the application will result in the administrative exclusion of the candidates.
